I find myself being self satisfied and I don't like it. What can I do to not feel like I need to prove my worth to everyone?

All of your answers are wonderful. I feel so much better already!...........I guess I'm a tad bit proud, due to the fact that I haven't had much in my life to be proud of!

i think your awareness is already a good start
keep watching your ego
if you can do something for others
but also enjoy and do not feel gilty

If you can read some books or listen to teachings of the Dalai Lama it will really change your life
and it does not means change religion
you can integrate Dalai Lama teaching in whatever your beliefs are

try and tell me.....

What you are talking about is being secure or insecure. Being humble starts with knowing you are doing the best you can, every day, to be the best person you can be. Being self satisfied is the answer, not the problem. It is a normal human reaction to life to constantly compare ourselves to others. What you will find is that there are people that we aspire to be like and those we challenge ourselves not to be like. Being satisfied that we are succeeding at that challenge and making the most of our lives with what opportunities we have had will make us more humble. The opposite is the temptation some call the seven deadly sins. Avoiding them leads to humility.

My gosh! The desire to be a bit more humble is more worthy than most people accomplish in their lives!
1 That you were born is an amazing thing
2 That you are able to use a computer is wondrous
3 That you are able to examine yourself to understand that you should be thankfull of these amazing gifts means that you are truely insightful.

The question comes... you are a human, you have the use of a computer, you are able understand your own shortcomings... but what are you willing to offer people less fortunate?

Spend time with the destitute; it's a great recipe to be humble. Have a meal with them and spend a couple of hours after that; their manner of living might make you crash back down to Earth again.

Volunteer with the less fortunate: at a soup kitchen, with the disabled (vets, special olympics, etc.) Check your local phonebook under charities and you'll likely find numerous worthy clauses very eager for your help.

the need to prove one's worth to everyone makes NOT satisfied about oneself.
it is a sign of feeling inconfident.

When we know that Our God is our creator and we are nothing before Him and when we know that everyone were created by Him and so there is no much difference though by appearance or riches or intelligence or anything for that matter. We will be humbled.
