actually everything belongs to God as He is the creator of all things. we give offerings, because the pastor needs to live, also there is maintenance in a church. but the thing to remember is that "God loves a cheerful giver."

Simple recognition. All good gifts around us come from God, it is only right and fair to give a portion back to uphold His church.
Now read that again. It is to uphold His church. Since He uphold's all of creation, I think it is pretty silly to think that we are giving "too Him."
Now if you are faithful to God, you will seek out the church that inspires you and helps others for your tithe. I still prefer sitting quietly in pews on the Lutheran to Catholic side of the spectrum. Handling Snakes or dancing in the aisles is a little strange. Now that I am thinking about it, I may give to the Mormon's because they do the most good around the world, despite the fact that I have many doctrinal differences with them.

The money does not go to God, what is he going to buy that he couldnt just poof into existance? An X-Box? I think not.
Generally, the collection plate goes to the church to keep it running, or is distributed among the poor. Unless your a scientologist.

"must"? Who told you you "must" do anything as a Christian? We are no longer under the law, we don't "have" to do anything but love God and seek to do his will.
Part of God's will is that we don't hold so tightly to money and to material possessions but that we store up our treasures in heaven by giving to other people and sharing what we have while we're on earth.
If you do not feel comfortable giving to a Church, give to the poor and the needy. Give to charity, give to an international aid organization. Give wherever you feel God leading your conscience to give.

take your tithes throw them up in the air and what doesn't come down is gods . take the money that falls to the ground and give it to charity or pay taxes and vote for those taxes to be put to good use . we only live on one planet the rest of the universe is still less relevant than you might think as it will be trillions and trillions of years before the sun burns out and we will need to leave an uninhabitable planet in a space migration for survival of the species.

The money goes to the institution, not God. You don't need to go to church to chat to your God for free.
