I think hell is going to be your biggest fear times a million. this is my take on hell.

Lying on a floor unable to move while millions of bugs and spiders bit you over and over again and I slowly roast on the insides from some unseen fire. May sound weird to you but this really is my biggest fear.

What do you think hell is going to be like?

I have read every reply to this question, and am completely amazed. NOT ONE is in line with scripture...... I have not seen one reply here with a scriptural understanding of what hell is. I am not being condescending, just am really surprised.

All of the information is easily checked.

Most peoples conception of hell dates back to a play, which a pope ordained as devinely inspired. The play was "Dante's Inferno", and has little to no basis in scripture. It is a twisted understanding of the parable of "Lazarus and the rich man" in scripture.

In the original greek document of the NT, there are three separate greek words used, all translated into "hell" in the english.

word - strongs number ----- (you can look it up in any exhaustive strong's concordance)

Hades - G86
Gehenna - G1067
Tartaros - G5020

I will demonstrate three verses with the three different words using KJV and KJV+ with strongs numbers in parallel for comparison:

--hades G86--
KJV Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

KJV+ Mat 16:18 And1161 I say also2504, 3004 unto thee,4671 That3754 thou4771 art1488 Peter,4074 and2532 upon1909 this5026 rock4073 I will build3618 my3450 church;1577 and2532 the gates4439 of hell86 shall not3756 prevail against2729 it.846

---- gehenna G1067----
KJV Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

KJV+ Mat 10:28 And2532 fear5399 not3361, (575) them which kill615 the3588 body,4983 but1161 are not3361 able1410 to kill615 the3588 soul:5590 but1161 rather3123 fear5399 him which is able1410 to destroy622 both2532 soul5590 and2532 body4983 in1722 hell.1067

---- tartaros G5020 (used only once in entire bible)----
KJV 2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

KJV+ 2Pe 2:4 For1063 if1487 God2316 spared5339 not3756 the angels32 that sinned,264 but235 cast them down to hell,5020 and delivered3860 them into chains4577 of darkness,2217 to be reserved5083 unto1519 judgment;2920

The meanings of each greek word is different, as you will find after looking each up:

Hades -- as you will find, means "grave", see an example in revelations 20:14, where "death and hell (the grave) are cast into the lake of fire (gehenna)". It also is the direct greek equivalent of the hebrew word Sheol, which also means grave, and in the entirety of the OT is translated also as "hell".

Gehenna -- as you will discover refers to "the valley of hinnom, or Ge-hinnom", as the place of everlasting punishment, in revelations called "the lake of fire"

Tartaros -- is intersting as it refers to "the deepest parts of hades", but then mixes gehenna with hades in the definition. It MIGHT refer to the elsewhere stated "bottomless pit", but I am not sure. However, it is nowhere else used in scripture, and only the angels that sinned have been stated as placed there.

I have no respect for those whom orders caused this purposefull misrepresentation, as such translation has only caused confusion, and scripture states that Satan is the author of confusion.

However, a general rule of thumb is that everywhere "is burnt up in hell" or "hell fire", etc.. refers to gehenna.

Generally, where "death and hell", "brought down to hell", "Gates of hell" etc refer to the grave.

An example, examining the "grave" aspect where "hades" was translated as grave:

----hades G86----
KJV 1Co 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

KJV+ 1Co 15:55 O death,2288 where4226 is thy4675 sting?2759 O grave,86 where4226 is thy4675 victory?3534

What confusion, you may ask?

Simply that due to this traditional translation error, I can state:

1. Everyone is going to hell (hades or grave, as all men are appointed to die once)
2. No-one is going to hell (tartaros, the place where ONLY the angels that sinned are)
3. The wicked are going to hell (gehenna, or the lake of fire)

Every one of these statements is true, BECAUSE of the manner of translation.

Now, there is a problem with the concept of death and hell, as Dante envisioned. Scirpture states that:

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The soul is not immortal.... GOD can destroy it, in hell (gehenna).

(This next one may blow you away)

1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Notice that "the dead in christ" are listed as asleep. This is a scriptural synonym for "dead". Aren't they in heaven???

Notice 4:16... the "dead in christ" (IE christians who have died) shall be raised first. Notice also, that we are caught up together WITH THEM to meet Christ in the air, and so shall we be ever with the Lord.

Interesting ehh? Do some research yourself, as you have no idea just HOW interesting it really is.

Now, back to hell, and the original question asked: "what is it like?"

Well, the grave is silent and dark.

Gehenna, or the lake of fire, is where scripture says the chaff (wicked) shall be burnt up (destroyed), and since revelation states that the false prophet, the beast, and satan are going to be cast into it, to be tortured forever, not a good place to be, come the great white throne judgement (where the wicked are resurrected and judged, and anyone not found in the book is cast in.. see revelations 20:10-15) Not a nice ending or place to be for anyone cast in there.

Tartaros, not a clue, as scripture does not state anywhere what it is like. However, nowhere does it state that human beings shall ever go there, so no need to worry about it either.

If you enjoyed this, then you may be interested in a Group I started here at Yahoo called "Truth in Doctrine". It is new, and I have not yet put any works there, but these shall come. Any who wish to learn or teach are welcome.

nicely, i do experience that it is senseless to assert "hell" in maximum circumstances..AND all individuals human beings do no longer do it. Its very generalizing. i'm American and we are no longer ALL about John Wayne. That became a lengthy time period in the past and under no circumstances in this technology. we do not all experience horses and shoot bow and arrow. it fairly is an previous stereo variety of human beings. Its variety of affirming all Brits have undesirable tooth..no longer all Brits have undesirable tooth.. i think a small inhabitants does..yet no longer ALL.

Hell is a state of total spiritual seperation from God. It would seem that some people on earth are already there. The final judgement is the eternal pronouncement of that seperation from God in the eternal lake of fire that the bible says will burn for all eternity because like us being created in God's eternal image, it, too, is eternal.
Undrstanding the state of hell for man is like putting a frog in a pot of room temperature water, and then slowly and gradually increasing the heat. The frog will not perceive the increase in temperature until it's too late, and you wind up having frog legs for dinner.

You really want to know. I am a chrisitan. Please google in 23 minutes in hell, bu a guy called Bill Wiese. This guy litterly had his spirit taken out of his body by Jesus and shown hell to tell thoe world it is a real place. His experince was that he was naked, the place was so dark you could not see anything, demons are there mocking God and mocking you. They come up to you and tear your flesh of of you. They are huge and hate you. You have no strenght in hell and iven if you did, know way will you fight thoese horrible creatures of. The flames are so hot you should die, but you do not, you have to endure it, people are constantly screaming at the top of thier lungs billions of them. Huge worms come and eat your flesh. Huge spiders that are huge 10 times what is on the earth. You are locked up in a cell chained up in darkness. But you do not have to go there. Jesus came to die for you and for me and the whole world. You must repent from your sins and invite Jesus in you heart. Jesus is gergous and sister there is none like him. Jesus wants to save as many souls as he can. You also must try and forgive others as God will forgive you if you ask. Please invite Jesus in your heart. I cannot live without Jesus. I would rather die than not to have him in my life, as my life would mean nothing. You can be saved, it is not too late for you, you are still breathing. Please e-mail me jesusisahoney@yahoo.com.au. Do not listen to other people that say hell is not real, and do not listen to other negative people. You get strange respnses on here that do not mean anything, trust me I know. God bless you. Umberto Eco has a truly magnificent description in his book "The Island of the Day Before" in which nothing happens to the cursed except that they can not die, only decay, but there is not even the relief of pain for them.
It is a very strange book with serious religious overtones.

However in spite of all the fantasizing about it, Hell only exists in peoples imaginations.

Being stuck for eternity in an endless but pointless traffic jam, surrounded by oblivious American drivers yacking away on cell phones, merging without looking or signaling first, rubbernecking at the most unimportant things, and driving in the passing lanes without any need to BE in those lanes, thereby preventing anyone else from passing--and thereby perpetuating the aforementioned eternal, pointless traffic jam.

I think hell is a black hole. It's dark, it's so cold that it feels like you are burning and you are totally alone, unable to communicate with anyone. I formed this concept after hearing hell referred to as "the pit".

Hell is on earth. If you are on earth living a content life it is heaven to you.

Hell is when you are
1)miserable with all the things you have, and always wanting more out of Greed.
2)upset over relatives, group of people, due to anger
3)expecting things from others(which in present, or past or future, to yourself or to others might cause hurt or trouble)
4)being led in ways through our impulses of our mind
5)Jealous of others acts, deeds, and their position in their life and society
6)attached to materialistic things as possessions even after your death(. . . for me having a HeadStone at your cemetery is materialistic. You(men/women) came from mother's womb with no tag, or label or barcode, and we should go back to mother(earth) the same way with no name, tag or barcode...That is my humble belief)

My 2 cents on this topic. Be Blessed.

I think there will be a lot of recent additions from the Middle East, and that many of them will wonder aloud where their 72 virgins are.
