Don't. Walk away. The guy is goading you looking for a fight. A real man doesn't have to prove himself this way. Also, frankly, this seems to happen in bars when people are drunk. This is a good way to get injured or end up in court or in jail. Walk away from it.

Anyway...you should only get into a physical "fight" with another man over a woman in only one instance, and that is when it is necessary for her protection. In any other case, you must rise above the crud he's trying to throw at you; in other words, don't let him drag you down to his level. Show your lady friend that you've got more class than Mr. Wierdo. In so doing, you will gain her respect and admiration, not to mention gaining self-respect and avoiding needless injury to your body.

You mean a fight that escalated out of a competition for a woman? Never. I wouldn't be impressed by that behavior. I'd be horrified by the idea that I've been dating a ally cat.

I would say that the only time I have ever used physical force on another was to subdue them while trying to hurt someone else. That is the only way I would ever be able to condone it in my mind.

if a man is putting his hands on a woman then you should definetly get involved. i wouldnt say fist fighting ,but you should most definetly get involved.
