Hi there . When i used to listen to headphones in the 70s i always preferred open air designs. From memory the sound was more spacious and the phones did not have to be pressed close to the ear resulting in more comfort. The ones i found to be the most comfortable were made by Sennheiser. They had a very natural sound with no peaks and dips in the frequency range. Also i owned a pair of Stax Electrostatic Headphones which were the best in the world at that time.
Hope this helps.

Hi.

Open air design is more 'airy'.

Closed air is more like 'being in the speaker cabinet'.

If you are spending over $100 on Sony headphones...take some time and look into Sennheiser.

They are the original 'open air' company.
