That's a good question.

I've found that it's easy to be deceived if you depend too much on either your mind or your heart independently.

For example, in mob psychology, the leader gets people to surrender their normal good sense to anger, allowing him to control this newly created mob for his own purposes.

Another example is a cult where a charismatic leader gets people to check their brains at the door by raising them to a fervor of belief and love.

It's also possible to be deceived if you depend too much on your mind while ignoring your feelings. One common method of deception is to throw terminology around and apparent expertise in order to convince people you actually know what you are talking about. If you overstate your position, which happens all the time, you're using deception and many people fall for it even though they feel something is wrong.

Another way to avoid deception is to come to an understanding of true principles, such as always telling the truth, and treating people with courtesy. One of my favorite principles is the Savior's admonition to treat others as you'd want to be treated. Another principle is the old adage, “You can’t be right by doing wrong, and you can’t be wrong by doing right.”

If someone tells you or you have a feeling you should do something that violates any of the principles you know are correct, you can be sure it isn't from God.

Peace only comes from God, overwhelming and bad temptations only comes from Satan. I am a sinner and I make mistakes and I sin, but I pray for wisdom and try to be wise in my decisions. I completely trust in God and in that he listen to my prayers and I always try to choose what I feel is right, what I know that won't harm me or anyone else. I know that feeling comes from the good, not from the bad. I still pray for wisdom and strength so I can do better everyday. The Holy Ghost never lies ^_^

Because Satan is a figment of human imagination.

He doesn't exist, except in your mind, to make an ad hoc excuse for when bad things happen to good people.

Because if you keep the lines of communication with God open through prayer and scripture study, the holy ghost will be with you and testify of those things that are only trying to trick you down the wrong path.

Zeus told me he didn't.

People don't "know" anything when it comes to religion. Or people know everything. Take your pick. Person A "knows" that Allah is the one true God, Person B "knows" that Yaweh is.... Person C "knows" that Zeus is the king of the gods... etc; etc;

So let people tell you they "know"... unfortunately people seem to know stuff that disagrees with other people who "know". It is almost as if people didn't have a clue.

I guess I don't. And I guess I'm also not %100 that little pink fairies don't sneak into my bedroom at night and cast magical orgasm spells on my vibrators. I just have to trust that it's probably not true.
