I've been reading tarot for fun for a while. And I just wanted to know any other arrangements for the tarot reading. I've only been doing something taught to me by a friend, which seems too simple, but it kind of works sometimes. Anyone know good arrangements (And the meaning of each card placement)?

There's a nice collection of 100+ spreads in a book called _Power Tarot_ by Trish Macgregor and Phyllis Vega.

You can also create your own or Google around for spreads. My own spreads are pretty simple; 3-5 cards that answer a specific question. When a card is unclear, I pull "Tell me more" cards, which are 1-2 additional cards to clarify.

A good spread will be effective and has nothing to do with how simple or complicated it is. Trouble with readings could also indicate that you need to consider your over all technique. Perhaps a brush-up on meanings or additional practice is needed?

Goodness there are so many I don't know where to begin. Most people who lay out the cards pick a spread that works for them. It's an individual thing. My suggestion would be to get on a book store website (www.amazon.com) and search for "how to read tarot cards" or "tarot card spreads". This will help you find the best spread for you. It's much easier to buy a book and pick one visually that works for you. Much harder to explain it on line.

There are many spreads out there and I can direct you to some. Here is a link to some online spreads, from a site I like-

They are not all old spreads. Actually, many people make their own spreads up. You may find making your own fun and useful. You can alter them to suit your needs. I think as long as you decide on the spread and the meanings of the positions in a way that makes sense to your brain, and then you do the reading using the spread, your mind knows that you are using that layout and positioning, and your mind knows what meanings you assigned to positions (hey you just invented it), so your subconsious (or whatever does it) should arrange the cards as accurately in these positions as it would in the positions of an ancient spread.

Design the spread to suit the question at hand. Let me give you an example. Um, let's say I have a dream. I'm making this up, but here goes- In the dream I turn into a fish. My friend is with me and she turns into a cat. She eats me. Then she turns into a mermaid. Okay, I want to know what this dream means. I would first ask myself what I thought it meant and try to come up with an answer before consulting the cards. That is my advise and some may advise against it. I would ask myself first, though, because I do not want what the cards say to cloud my thought process on it. Then I would go and get the cards and do a spread. The spread may look like this- Card one is for Me (the dreamer), Card two is for the act of dreaming, the connection between me and this particular dream. Card three represents this particular dream and its overall meaning. Card two falls in between card one (me) and card three (this dream), showing our relationship. Then I would take all the major dream elements in the sequence they happened in my dream. I would go below this line of three cards and start doing these dream elements. Card four could represent me turning into a fish. I want it to show what it means that I turned into a fish- to represent that transformation or to represent me as the fish. Card five shows the meaning behind my friend turning into a cat. Card six represents the act of her consuming me. Card seven shows her turning into a mermaid- why did she turn into a mermaid, what does this mean.

You could do a different spread for the same dream. Maybe not have the relationship card (to represent connection between dreamer and the dream) and you may place the answer of what the dream meant overall at the end underneath the major dream occurances or elements. You may keep the "you" card overtop of everything, but alone, or you may toss it out altogether. Some people think you need a card to represent you, and some even pick it out before reading and consciously choose which card to use, but when using a card to represent me, I do not pick it out consciously beforehand. I just add it into the spread. I have my reasons for this, but you aren't asking about that. Anyway, hope this helped!

YON: 1. You, 2. Other, 3. Need to know
PPF: 1. Past, 2. Present, 3. Future
MBS: 1. Mind, 2. Body, 3. Spirit
KLA: 1. Know, 2. Learn, 3. Action

There are thousands of spreads. Check out some of the links suggested, as well as most books, and decks come with at least 1 spread.

There are TONS of books out there about tarot reading some very straight forward and some extremely complicated. You could probably find several in a local book store. Or just check out Amazon dot com which has a huge number of them.

There are books on various tarot spreads. Most people do a standard Celtic Cross. Depending on the question, that may not be the most accurate of spread.

tarot is full of symbolism which is useful in organising ideas but it does not say all and can't predict the future .putting it into perpsective requires much knowledge from many sources and yu make your own conjecture or use your own inutition ...I suggest the book by Edward Waite on tarot .
