We turn to the Kaaba--the holiest site in Islam, which is in Mecca. It unifies all of us in the ummah--eveyone, regardless of his or her place on this Earth, is praying in the same direction.

We don't bow to Mecca. We pray towards the Qibla which is in Mecca 5 times a day because that is how ALLAH(SWT) wants it. The Qibla is the big black box which is the house of ALLAH(SWT) in the middle of the Masjid of Muhammad(PBUH*).

I've heard they bow their heads as an act of sublimation for the head houses the brain . maybe we should all show some humility in our lives.

they do not baw to it. it is a sacred place, like the vatican for the catholics. the kaaba(black square) was made by prophet abraham first and then finally muhamed(pbut). they are the messangers of god. we go and pray there because it is sacred. it is not a shrine. we are the only religion that makes praying obligatory.

Because they think that God is near a Rock. Praying to a rock is Idolatry per the ten commandments of God.
