r & r can start 90 days after they are in theater... it really all depends some soldiers get their choice of when they take r&r due to the birth of a child or graduation of a child, my husband was scheduled to come in feb for r&r and they kept bumping it up so he didnt end up coming home till April...The way my husbands unit did r&r was they put dates in a hat and every one drew a date, and then you had the option of trading with a person...I personally like when my husband comes home towards the middle or end of the deployment, that way I know we will be back together again soon...hes on a 15 month deployment also (10 months down...5 more to go WOOHOO)

For the 12 month tours that my hubby did R&R window was 3 months into the deployment up to 10 months into the deployment (or 2 months before they came home). With the tours being 15 months now, they may or may not move the window a little bit, it will probably be up to the units. When my dh went the first time, everyone was assigned a number based on their flight (they traveled in 4 batches) and their seat number, and they went numerically by that. Some of the guys traded dates if they wanted to be home for say an anniversary or due date of a baby (my hubby did that during his second tour when I had our son). Other units, the guys got lotteried a number and they took leave in that order, again trading as the chain of command would allow them.

there is no specific time, oviously an entire unit can't take leave at the same time, otherwise who'd be fighting?? Is usually sometime between they just started 15 month rotations so I don't know for sure, they try to shoot for some time around the midway point of the deployment though. They are encouraging every soldier to take leave sometime during the deployment now, so he shouldn't have a problem getting leave.

The R&R will be worked out with his individual unit once in country and established. It must be worked out with all of the other R&Rs of the other Soldiers in the unit is. As you might imagine the entire unit cannot leave all at once.

The R&Rs might be local to the theater or home to the Continental US. It is the same way that it has always been done in Korea. R&R generally can be anywhere from 90 days after deployment up to 90 days from redeployment.

Well usually they try to make it half way thru, but not everyone can go at once. My husband came home almost 7 months in, but I know of guys that were only gone a month or so. We wanted to wait till the half way point so it was broken up a bit and it didn't seem so bad that way.

The soldier can request it half-way through but it doesn't mean they'll get it then. So really it's whenever the military decides.

Some time between the second and twelfth month. The unit can't send everyone on leave at the same time, so they can't all go at the halfway point.

whenever they can spare him. sometimes it's half way through, sometimes it's within 3 months of arriving, sometimes its within 3 months of leaving. some others don't get anything at all. it really depends on a lot of factors.

Typically it is about half way or when mission allows it but all military members deployed to war zones get their r&r

it is a lottery and they draw a name with a date and that's when they go....unless they need to request it.
