Because they don't understand the bible. Men and women are to dress different. Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

Why don't you ask them? You definitely have asked enough questions about the choir that you should be an expert at singing. Are you a male soprano? Every member of most choirs wear the same colors so that they do not distract your attention from the rest of the choir. I do not believe that a Christian Church should have a choir since we are all supposed to be singing and not listening as a part of the worship service. Have a nice LORD's DAY. It is a choir robe. It is simply the uniform.
It dates back to a time before the Protestant rebellion, when the singers were all altar servers and those who wanted to be priests. They all dressed in altar outfits, such as robes (I'm leaving out technical names for the outfits...irrelevant).
