m buying a 1994 Mustang GT. It's suped up and has subwoofers. The owner is asking for 5,000. Is this too much? Would 4500 be more reasonable? gas mileage: 135,000

Also, how long do these cars last? 200,000 miles?

He probably has beat the crude out of it. Better get a certified mechanic to check it out first to see if there is anything wrong with it. It should cost you less than $100 and is well worth it.

i have a 2001 gt all suped up..... i don`t race it though...a 94 that was probably drivin hard at 135k I would not buy this car...just because i can take that 5 g`s and puta down payment on a 07 or 08 mustang gt. Good luck buddy, with the choice you make.

the Kelly blue book is the standard for car pricing. gas mileage for a modified 302 will be in the 15 range at best.
a stock mustang treated well and not raced will last 2000 thousand easily. a restored or modified car is worth what you can get. you can never expect to get out of it what is put into it.

That is a lot of money for a 10 year old plus car and that is a lot of mileage. Maybe move to the next car.
And a GT is going to cost you at the pump.

Well it does depend on what he's done to it. Have you seen the car yourself? If not you should. But Mustangs usually don't make it to 200k miles. Chances are you're gonna have to get a new engine for it pretty soon. I think 4500 would be alot more reasonable.

I would get a pre-purchase inspection done 1st car fax etc how many owners does he have receipts body work done clear title? After everything checks out good compression in motor. fluid level and color in trans I would offer 2450.00 then negotiate from there. you can always find another 1 unless this thing is pristine I wouldn't give more then 3k.

The stereo and woofers are worth next to nothing and are of no consequence. 135K miles is low for a car that old.

A 1994 GT convertible is worth about $2400. A GT coupe is worth about $2200.

has the engine been rebuilt during it's hp increases? and if the miles are hard, beware. the 5 speed tranny from ford, (stock) doesn't hold up against hard driving..be careful of hot rods. it would be better if u built your own car, that way you know what u have.. my son did this and contemplated just buying one like u r looking at. he did better building his own.

if it's been modified and raced, it probably won't last 200k, but from a performance standpoint, if might be worth it. It would probably cost lots more than that to build one. You could make him a offer, it never hurts

Bad idea. Even 3000 is too much! Why don't you try edmund.com for used car pricing. American cars do not go 200K miles as simple it is. He is asking Dealers price.
