Ive wanted to be a Marine since I was little and still would like to be a Marine. I love the brotherhood of the Corps and the life long membership when you join the Corps, I also love the intensity and pride of being a Marine. But I would like to be a Corpsman in the Navy and serve with the Marines as a combat medic. I know the Navy life because my father spent 21 years in the active Navy. The Navy is good life and they treat well, but the advancement is the hardest out of all the branches (most retire at E-6) and now you have to have an associates degree to become an E-7. I just don't know which one to join. It really is 50/50 right now.

Hey Man, I know when we did our tours over in Iraq, we considered Navy Corpsman our brothers in the Corps. Either choice you make is a good choice but I'm gonna go with the Marine Corps. Thats were I recently served and continue to serve. There is just something about the Corps that the other branches don't have. In the end its your final call. Promotions in the navy are usually slower granted but the knowledge you can come out of with.

Wow, this question is right up my line. I joined the Navy as a Hospital corpsman, they stationed me with the Marine corps for 3 years (marines have no medical staff so they borrow us) and the Navy seals for my last year This was when Corpsman could go through the crash course and enlist for only 4 years. If you go Marines first the Navy Seals will kick your buns1 If you go navy seals you won't want to go Marines because you would be over qualified. Believe me I fought both on the same day, the seals are the meanest bunch I've ever worked with. (Marines and seals got into an argument, a fight broke out, I had to fight everyone since I was wearing a Marine uniform but had a beard which only the navy allowed back then. So I got my buns kicked by both at the same time. Seals were better) Really, if you make it through the seals you won't go marines. If you go marines first the seals won't want you and will make sure you fail.

I started my career as an undesignated striker, working deck division. It did not take long to realize that while upward mobility in that particular rate was great, It doesn't require whole lot of brain power (G-2)... I became a Corpsman and immediately upon graduation from that 'A' school, I was sent to Camp Pendleton for FMSS. I spent the majority of the next 20 years working for the Marine Corps and loved just about every minute of it -- even when in combat! It was the absolute best of both worlds! You are given the position, but you have to EARN the title and the respect. Don't tell my wife and kids, but even now, (well after retirement) I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be than with my beloved Corps.

I just got out of the marines and I'll give you this little something to think about. First off don't get me wrong when I tell you this I mean I loved serving in the marine corps. but most people I've known in the marines only do one enlistment because you are treated like s*** until you are an E-4 or E-5. It takes most people their whole first enlistment to become an E-4. But once you show that you are willing to be a listener and not wine they will respect you.

An associates degree? lol? There are mentally handicapped people with an associates degree, it's no great achievement.

Go Navy!

Edit: Wow, a Marine saying the Navy is for p ussies from behind his little computer... get a life dude, the Navy is for people that can actually get above a 40 on the ASVAB, unlike some people (cough)

And the few thousand SEALs could whoop the 200,000 Marines easy.

Do what you think is best. I spent 20 years in the navy and enjoyed most of it. As a medic you would be helping to save guys on the fount lines which is an Honorable activity. If you go keep your head down and come home safe.God bless.

You only know in your heart which branch to join.
My son went with Army National Guard. So he could get an education first. You might want to go with ROTC in college,, Then you enter the military as a Second Lieutenant. For right now it sounds like your undecided, so why not kill the time with College!

Well, simply put if you join the Navy you'll see all those Marines and wish you were one of them. And the Marines are a Department of the Navy....the MEN'S DEPARTMENT!!
