As a Christian parent, it is my responsibility to raise my children in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord. The best way I know of to do that is to live the life of righteous man. Even if my children would choose to have a different set of beliefs, at least they would know that discipline in what you believe, whether spiritual or not, is essential and needed.
If I only show them a "lukewarm" relationship with the Lord, that will trickle down into my relationship with my wife and children. Then what kind of example will I be setting? It would tell them it is okay to believe this way when good is happening and this way when it all goes south. That is NOT a very healthy attitude about anything at all. Find what you believe in with your whole heart and follow it through until the end.

I think our children will pretty much find their own way. There are devout practitioners of various faiths who end up with atheist children, and vice versa.
But it is always good to live the life you expect out of your children or hope for them, more of a "Do as I do, instead of a 'do as I say' thing."

Children should be taught to worship God...but in their own way...not according to a specific religion. Even if the parents go to church regularly, they and the kids should understand that religions were not created by God...but were created by man. Trust in God for all things...especially that he will lead you where you need to go.

My son was raised to think for himself, be conscious of himself, and to strive to develop empathy and compassion for others.
At one point in time, he told me he didn't believe in God or anything else. I let him be. He came to his own intelligent conclusions about life and how best to live it.
At twenty, he is an extremely successful professional, has a huge heart, a perceptive and astute mind, and a great sense of self.
Thankfully, I let him be.

It is very unfortunate that so many people do not think or decide things like religion for themselves, and most often are forced into believing what their parents believe in.
