Our conscious mind has all sorts of input coming at it all the time through each of our senses, plus our memory. Somehow we sort out and come up with one or two tracks of thought at the forefront. Mind you, this is a constant, ongoing process, as we think in tracks much like how a train follows the train tracks. Our thoughts follow down a logical path, progressing toward an outcome or the solving of a puzzle within us.
The more absorbed we are in our progressing thoughts, the more our mind is thinking much like a conversation inside our head. Sometimes we simply find it both natural and easy to put a voice to the thoughts we are working on, or maybe you find yourself humming or singing a tune "stuck in your head".
So consider the track your thoughts are running on, or the tune that keeps coming back to you today, or the conversation you would be having "if only" you had the chance........it's as easy and as natural as putting words to your thoughts.

My theory is that the brain processes thought, speech, reading and writing in different ways.
You can have a thought that is forgotten in an instant.
You can argue the pro's and con's of something with yourself out loud to arrive at a conclusion but you may forget how you got there. You can even play devils advocate with yourself in this way too.
You can read some advice and generally remember most of it.
You can write a problem down, for example your side of an argument with a friend, and in doing so you can sometimes see their point better than you could before.

I think sometimes you can get so immersed in a thought, it just pops out.
Also, sometimes it helps to say things outloud when you're trying to put a lot of various ideas and concepts in to order. Or remembering something.
And in the age of blue tooth, sometimes people just seem like they're talking to themselves. :o)

people who talk to themselves aren't weird. We all do it, but some need to hear what they are thinking in order to understand it.
It isn't a bad thing...its more like a curse for me...lol

well, sometimes people hear voices in their minds...meds can help...I think out loud alot when I'm alone, which can be embarrassing if someone walks in the room. Sometimes, we are better listeners to ourselves...huh? what was that? oh sorry, it was my inner child voice telling me get of the computer....

That's (somewhat) normal. When you see someone carrying on a conservation with their self....that's when you worry !
