Could it be a form of scitzophrenia?

It's known as "moral relativism". The Bible, formed by the Council of Nicaea, is a Catholic book. The Catholic Church is the publisher. Keeping that in mind, wouldn't the publisher (and shouldn't the publisher) know the meaning of the contents of it's book? I would think so. But there came a time when people started "interpreting" it by their own thoughts or convictions.

So why would that be a bad thing? Well, look at it this way: When we hear a song on the radio, sometimes we think the lyrics mean something else, when really the songwriter meant and intended something completely different. The song had a whole other meaning; but sometimes some people might take it to mean whatever it means *to them*. That might be okay in some ways, but it isn't very accurate. We could attribute the same scenario to an artist, his painting, and a museum visitor looking at his painting: The artist had a definite meaning when he painted his artwork, but the person viewing his painting sees something else in it, another meaning. The visitor may get something out of it that is what they imagine it to mean, but what they imagine may not be the accurate description to what the artist truly intended.

The same situation has happened over and over again with non-Catholics and the Bible. And I don't mean anything against non-Catholics, it's just something that happened. People began "interpreting" Bible scriptures to mean something other than what the Church taught about it's own book. Soon denominations developed. Then people disagreed with those denominations and their interpretations, and began to develop new denominations based on their newer interpretations... And this has happened again and again many times since the Reformation, until now there exists thousands of denominations. And if I may add, it's very unfortunate, because the very Bible they're interpreting of their own accord (and constantly becoming all the more divided because of their own understandings) instructs that the Church should be ONE (John 10:16).

Some left the Catholic Church because they didn't accept that the Eucharist is more than bread and wine, but the actual body and blood of Christ. But even this sort of division happened in the Bible, when Jesus was questioned specifically and quite matter-of-factly about this: In the book of John it says (beginning at verse 54) Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.... 60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" 61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you?.... John -->6:66<-- From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. 68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

You see, the truth remains intact, no matter what we think or surmise about it. We can get ourselves into a tangled mess, with moral relativism.

So the short answer to your question would be- Yes, because they don't agree on much....

And many of his disciples left him.... and walked away........

A tragedy.

Yes. Many of the "great" christian leaders didn't like the version they were brought up with, so the changed or reinterpted the bible and got others to follow their personal beliefs, so that there are now many different denominations, all believing their way is the only "truth" and every body else is wrong. I think that's why so many are turning away from christianity. They get tired of all the fighting.

No no no it's the love of money! same reason there are so many Bibles, each religion can justify their religion by believing their own Bible and say mine is the right one. With a new religion you have new leaders and new people to send your money to.1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Notice the words ALL ALL ALL not some evil but ALL evil.

Man is man, not God. There is one authority on Christiananity. In other words, followers of Christ. There are lots of denominations to choose from. I think that if you are serious about your walk with Christ, and you ask for guidance, he will guide you to the church where he would like you to worship. Many of the churches do believe in a few different things, however, most churches that just follow the bible, believe pretty much the same. There are the one's that say they are christians and are way out there. Why is that? Man's ego. Man is following his own ideas and refuses to submit to Jesus. It happens. Sin is everywhere. It is not easy to follow Jesus. Many times he asks us to do things that seem hard or we just have our own agenda. Following Jesus is a walk of faith. Faith that he really loves you, has a plan for your life that you will love, and faith that He can get you there. Follow him, not the denominations.

Yep. Definitely it.

Take the Anglican Church, for instance. It was founded by Henry VIII because the Catholic Church would not let him divorce his wife. He declared the Church of England into being, with himself as the pope, and with his new found title, declared divorce to be legal in the eyes of the church. He kept the rest the same, pretty much. Further differences have come along since the two groups went their seperate ways, of course.

You hit the nail right on the head.

They have some common ground, but people have a hard time agreeing on the details. It's sad. This happens within denominations. They split up and make new ones.

There are lots of christians and all that are real, no matter what are serving the same God. All the christians serves God differently. WE all are sisters and brothers in god eyes. The bible tell us there are different administration but by the same spirit says the lord. Churches and religion means nothing but the heart of man that is important to the lord. The church and our religion is to keep us focus upon him.
