Great insight!!
It is 'right' to call sin, "sin" when we see such behavior. It is true that drunkeness is a sin and we are correct to speak that truth. It is NOT our place to judge a particular person other than to say, "Unless 'so&so' doesn't stop this sinning, he is in danger of being lost. God has told us in the Bible that drunkeness is a sin."
See the difference?
You are so right. It is OK to quote the scriptures regarding the sins of this world.., and our own! God has told us loud and clear.
Our position on earth now is to BE the hands and feet, speech and heart of Jesus..., remember we are His church; His bride; of His flesh and of His bones, actually His BODY.
He would have us say what He said, "I was not sent into the world to judge the world but to save it. The words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life (ours are supposed to be also) and are what will judge the world.
It's that we are to HATE sin and LOVE people; the very ones who need God so badly and don't know it. Let's pray for them and I bet they already know they are sinners and hate it too!
I been there and NO Christians ever befriended me or loved me. I was already condemned by myself and I didn't need anymore! I just needed a genuine friend who knew God for real.
I overheard a stranger witnessing about Jesus Christ and about praying a sinner's prayer. God found a way! Thank God for humble people who truly KNOW Him.

Wow. To get into how I would personally answer this would take me forever, so, how to sum it up? Jesus clearly said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and it is also made clear that not one of us is fit for Heaven. It is only through God's Grace that we will get there. In other words, we all have our downfalls. That drunkard is no better or worse off than you when it comes to salvation. Do you drink, smoke, gossip, think ill thoughts, etc, etc. Jesus came and died for our sins because we are ALL sinners and always have to ask for God's forgiveness. Therefore, in short, if the drunkard is repentant (can he help the fact that he drinks?) he is cleansed of his sins. I am by no means an expert, but please don't pass judgment as you wouldn't judgment passed on you.

Because you are paraphrasing what you think God said, by way of dozens of traditions, revisions and translations. God never said that to the Jews at Mt. Sinai, and it is their tradition from which Christianity derives, one could easily point out the New Testament is an unwanted addition to their system of laws just as many Christians point out the Book of Mormon is to their's. So no, it is not up to you to stand in judgment any more than it would be appropriate for you to tell a judge on the bench what his or her decision should be according to your interpretation of the law.

God has not only pronounced judgement, He has executed judgement. He executed judgement on Christ at the cross, in your place and mine.
It is also written that liars will not enter Heaven. And many other things. James points out that anyone who breaks one point of God's law has already broken it all. That would condemn you and me. However I have put myself under the protection of Christ who bore the judgement for me. Of course that has resulted in a big change of attitude and behaviour for me.
But even since trusting Christ I have broken God's law, and I will do it again, I'm afraid. But I will not pass into judgement because I have already passed from death to life.

Dear nosnod,

When the Bible refers to the categories of people who will not enter the gates of Heaven- it is not describing one particular act of sin- but it is referring to a continual lifestyle especially once knowing God's heart towards a particular lifestyle choice.

There have been many alcoholics who have found Jesus. There is not a sin that we can commit that God can not forgive us of (other than the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit). So God has not placed final judgement yet-- but if you continue down the course you are on- you have made a decision of your own will and so it's not God's fault as you are proposing in the logic stated in your question.

According to christian belief, not only has judgment already been made but that god knows EVERYTHING about ALL things, which would mean the outcome of every soul is already determined.

There is a difference between judgment and condemnation. We don't have the right to condemn people to hell, but we can objectively point out (judge) when something is against God.

God is the only one that should pass judgement. It is not our job to say whether or not someone will go to Heaven or not.

I am glad it isn't my job either because being human we make too many mistakes.

I wouldn't say you're placing judgement. I don't know about the "most Christians" part, that sounds more like what the non-Christians would say.

It is not wrong to judge sin or even speak out against it.

It is wrong to judge an individual's eternal fate(this job is exclusive to God)however,it is not wrong to warn an individual of impending doom if he does not choose to repent of his sin and seek forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
