Well, thanks for the wake up call, but having nearly died of bone marrow failure, congestive heart failure, and beginning kidney failure and losing both my jobs and having an eviction notice on my door and living on only 141 a month in foodstamps all because of acute onset of lupus, I think I am more aware of ever second I have than you are.

so much
But to name just one, being able to see
I hardly ever think about not having sight. I just take it for granted.
Yet
when I do, I am immediately so grateful.
This of course leads me to start a list of all the other things I have which are good and positive. I have yet to finish the list, as it is very long.
In terms of your question, I don`t assume further than a day at a time and never have since I first experience loss.
`When was the last time you let the people you care about know that you care`? Today I am pleased to be able to say

I tell my kids that I love them every day, 400 times at least.
I take a lot for granted, considering that I have cable tv, food in my refrigerator, and clean water to drink, a indoor bathroom, a shower to wash, a clean bed to sleep in, a washer and dryer to clean my clothes, and the resources to have a vegtable garden.... I think that I am doing pretty well.
I know that people, including myself, don't think about how other people struggle on a daily basis. But, there are so many people even in the USA that don't barely survive and can provide a meal for their family.

I take to much for granted like most people. I learned from my auntie to never hang up the phone or leave someone I care abouts presence with out saying I love you or I care about you. You just never know.
I hope you are doing OK, I have had you in my thoughts.

I tell my family I love them & hug/kiss them daily.
I take nothing for granted because I've seen from life experience how much all that can change in the blink of an eye.

I'd admit I take a lot of things for granted, however, I treat everyday as if it were my last. I let everyone know how much they mean to me at least once daily.

if you do this you would freak people out..what is this person trying to tell me? just act natural all the time...you sound like you just lost someone dear to you? if you did ...then i could see the reason for your questions..
i lost my parents..so i always treat people the way i would want to ..if i knew this would be my last day to see them..that is just being mature...don't let an angry word be the last thing you tell a loved one..and if it is..they will understand..

Of course I assume all these things. Even people who are in grave danger that they will not assume these things.

How would we have a clear concept of "how much" while we are taking it for granted?
