God was apparently worried that all these people working together would build a tower high enough to reach heaven, so he destroyed it and separated everyone and made them all speak different languages so that they couldn't communicate or work together, thereby preventing them from being able to try again.
I'm serious.
Well, you know what they say: there is no "god" in "team." :P

It's obvious that there are many languages, and that at some point in history there was just one. Since Babel is no more, then it is obvious that God didn't approve. We only know from the Bible, that Nimrod built a tower. Inductively, whatever God didn't like about those folks had something to do with the tower.
It's also obvious to me, that it would take an act of God, to get everyone together, peacefully. Then, this age of pain will surely be at an end. Man's closest attempt at world peace, is the calm after a world war. I hope God has a different plan.

God had to guard us from understanding too plenty. that's what the snake tempted Eve to do, be attentive to each thing, interior the backyard of Eden. people are characterised via understanding extra suitable than we are able to look after. we be able with our know-how to do stable or terrible, evil issues. as an occasion, the comparable ability that can layout a device to do stable can layout a element to kill. the comparable ability to communicate encouragement can communicate to harm somebody. the comparable activity point that gets us into arts and creativity can get us into pornography. We in simple terms have extra know-how than what we are able to look after. And interior the case of the tower of Babel, the persons have been given at the same time to do their superb to realize heaven on their very own, with out God's help. there develop into no actual danger to God yet he had to end their foolishness. maybe God has no subject with us adventuring into different factors as a results of fact the excuses are not the comparable as a results of fact those on the tower of Babel. on the different hand there have been an undesirable lot of tragedies interior the area application so i does not presume it to have God's approval.

Some say it was because God knew if everyone spoke the same language and understood each other, it would be much easier for the devil to tempt and lead them all astray...plus the arrogance of their statement that they should make a name for themselves---as if they are the greatest thing on the planet, not God. Look at how Hollywood and other pop influences have turned young people away from religious behavior. God knows the devil's methods and did this to protect people from him by confusing their languages so they would not all fall victim to the devil's influences and make them drift apart to settle in other places. Now, there are remote tribes and cultures that are not influenced by our looser morals and may have developed a closer relationship to God without some of our bad influences. At least, that's one theory.

A very good question. Actually, I don't think God had anything against mankind working together. The problem was their attitude. They said: " Let us make ourselves a name". Now remember this was right after the story of Noah and his three sons. One of his sons was called "Shem". Now in Hebrew, "Shem" means "name". And "Shem" was the one God had chosen to produce the One who would redeem mankind. So when they said "Let us make ourselves a Shem (name)", they were basically saying: "Let us unite and reject God's solution, we will save ourselves". And God does reject that solution, whether people like it or not.
So God interfered, allowing man to realize that mankind could neither save itself, free itself, or redeem itself. And then He sent Jesus, a descendant of Shem, of the Name God had chosen.

I've wondered the same thing. The Jewish historian wrote that, after the flood, the people wanted to build a tower high enough that God couldnt kill them with a flood again, and then they could act anyway they wanted to. God didnt like their arrogant attitude.
Makes sense to me.

There was too much corruptive power possible. God wasn't going to let mankind get as corrupt as before the flood. (Since God promised to not flood the earth again). After this (Babylon) catastrophic event, people didn't live up to 200 yrs old anymore.
Also, another time people got too corrupt was Sodom & Ghomorah. God intervened again & destroyed the cities.

According to some sources, God didn't want all the people in one place. God wanted to have the people scatter to the four corners to repopulate the earth.

He DOES, and always has wanted us to work together WITH HIM so we could be blessed and prospered. They were working together to exalt themselves and against God..., read where Lucifer did the same thing..., what a fall!
When men seek to elevate themselves to God their own way, it's just trouble! God doesn't "attempt" to do anything.., if He does it, IT'S DONE! He DID confound their languages and they went off in different directions into different locations.
