Dear younmanofthegarden, it's not God that has created this thing, it's humans who earn in the name of God, for God, everyone is equal, be it a saint or a devil!

i think yy4me_simphomania, there is a reason for everything and we are too small in front of the Almighty to jump into the conclusion as to why a person was treated this way, all i know is whatever happens, happens for the good and is blessed by the grace of God. I hope i'm right.

Saguna all these are most powerful.Havana and chanting of mantras is also another form of prayer. Its important to involve your mind, heart in that too and do them with full faith. All must be done sincerely and the last three must be done acc to proper rituals.
As for the first and the last-prayer can always be done anywhere by yourself and its most powerful too.Worship by brahmins is necessary when you cant perform pujaas involving several rituals yourselves. Then you need the help of a priest
for eg. Marriage is also a yagna but you cant do it yourself you have to have a priest to perform the rituals.
Mantraas, chanting of Gods name and prayers is best when done by one's self. For one who cant perform havan himself because he does not know how to its indespensiblr that we perform it with brahmins help. The bramin speaks the mantraas and instructs you to do things accordingly. Its you who is performing the havan, the brahmin is here to help you. Wen u do havana ,prayer, mantra or name chanting its best to do it with all ur heart and mind just as you do in your simple prayer. Each has its own important place and none should be undermined. All this is Vedaantic philosophy that has deep meaning attatched to it which you and I dont know.

I feel that if we are sincere while participating in any of these that you mentioned, they can all be powerful. I think some people find it easier to be sincere if they are praying on their own, and so for them, that would be the more powerful. But I think that the puja done through a priest also can have great power because it is a beautiful and honorable service to God. The sights, sounds, and smells of the worship involve all of our senses in the worship. So our whole being becomes involved. This is very powerful for many people. But it may not be for everyone. That's my opinion!

depends upon what do you do
if you are a devotee of the Lord then prayer is the best.
if you are in worldly life then havan is the best , if you can do with yourself because it will also inject the feeling if spiritualism because mantras which you will speak will induce spiritualism.
if you can not do havan then pooja with brahman should be done

i am talking about the best , it does not mean that preyer will not be beneficial for a person living in worldly life. but it will take more time depends upon efforts

PRAYER is the most powerful one..

it may be meditation or simple act of concentration on the lord by repeating his name..

note:-
friend u do not do what a brahmin(priest) says u to do ..he says what he has learned from the sacred books n u simply follow it..to follow or even seek his advice is ur right..

Humans are said to pray to god in some of the modes they experience, as said in scriptures.

1.) sadness ( sincere prayers comes form heart, for mercy )
2.) Pain ( sincere prayer from heart, for deliverance of pain)
3.) Happiness ( sincere thanks to god, but this is often not very powerful feeling and also very rarely people thank god form heart )

and some more.

If one of these is not experience by humans, they cannot bring genuine feelings, when they are in mode of ignorance and passion, and not in full knowledge ( 99.999 percent of humans )

so in these times , the other alternatives are used to pray to god. Off course prayers are the recommended ones, but until you are self realized you cant pray to god sincerely always, humans tend to be captured by ego, ignorance, lust , and many many other desires.

when under the action of desire, one cannot pray to god from heart.

BUT,

I would also like to tell that havans or sacrifices were very powerful in the past ages , and have deteriorated to almost useless form now in this age ( kali yuga).

In krita and other yugas, even for a ashwa yagna ( a horse sacrifice ) , they used to reattach the head of the horse that was cut in the sacrifice, and the horse would not die. This was the test for a Brahmin, that he is constantly in practice.

Look better read religious scriptures, ask some great scholars, but dont ask people, people give you different but wrong answers.

Read and study religion, go read all religious books and know more about great saints and devotees.

Have knowledge of what you do and on what you are going to do, Knowledge is powerful so first study then analyze and then decide.

I wish you all the best for your Spiritual endeavor.

This is to answer the general part of your question and not the specific one related to prayer.mantra etc. History has proved that the most powerful thing in this world is an 'IDEA',whose time has come.An Idea may be in the form of a concept.a theory, invention or a discovery,a trend or a practice. So,when a prayer is granted,it is a rebound of our faith in the idea that it should happen and it does happen..

you are right. sincere prayer is what god also wants from us. mantras, havans & pura are different forms of prayers. it is one's wish which way he prays . it is like different rivers whch will join the one ocean. so, there is nothing to explain there. some people like to do it in a big way, as they have means & mind do it. & they have belief in what they do. if u don't believe u don't have to do it, just a simple sincere paryer will please god.as much as all havans & pujas.there is no question of necessary or unnecessary here.

To me, in my happiness, in my laugh, in my sorrow and my cry, my work..etc., if i think of god and share my feelings with god, There lies the true and pure powerfull of love and affection towards god, More than prayer, mantras or pooja. This is with my own experience. But i am not saying that you should not do pooja or prayer. It is just my view.

Prayers and mantras are like meditation. To make our mind pure and in control.
