Don't talk a lot unless you're helping the team out...
You're probably going to be the oldest one and the drill sergeants are probably are going to exploit that...
Make sure you land with both feet flat on the ground and that you excersise in proper form.

Hang in there... I worked at a police academy while I was in college... and we had a 30+ year old female cadet who really had a hard time the first few weeks... She never gave up, though... no matter that she was last on a run, or struggled through some of the PT... she was, without a doubt, the most respected person in that class, because of the wisdom and graciousness that comes with age, and the calm, confident presence she was. She never gave up, and by the end of the Academy she was running right along with the rest of the cadets.
I know.. it sounds like a TV movie... but it's true... and you can be just such a warrior!! The military is looking for leaders.. and you can lead by example, even during basic training.
I know you're not gonna be a Marine... but Semper Fi, anyway.. Thanks for choosing to serve your country!

I was there in 2004 in august i say good luck because it's hot out there by noon it gets to be 100 + degrees in Fort Jackson it's called heat catogory 4 and anything over that it's heat catogory 5. Drink plenty of water the drill seargants will constintly tell you to drink water you'll hear it alot . And you won't go directly to basic you'll go to reception first that were you'll get you uniforms running shoes paper work dog tags and you'll get about 5-7 shots reception is one week them you move on to basic as long as theres nothing wrong with your paperwork them you'll go to basic and stsrt at week 0. theres 9 weeks of training and the phases red white and blue phase. red phase is all the basics such as introduction to the army victory tower which is a obsticle couse it takes all day butit's a blast white phase is weapon qualification you'll get a m-16 automatic rifle you'll be assighned a weapon number they show you how to take it apart to clean it and put it back together you'll also qualify with a grenade and blue phase is the shortest phase and you'll do victoriy forge good luck 40 rounds is forty kills one team one fight.

Get ready. If you are not from a humid hot climate, then prepare yourself. Stretch before doing anything. I went thru basic with a 34 year old woman. She almost failed. Her physical body was about out of it. Really build yourself up and fast. Stop any drinking and drugs. Even antihistamines. Learn to walk in less comfortable shoes. Victory hill is no picnic. Everyone makes fun of the Army compared to the Marines, but really it's not a picnic it's hard.

Start hydrating yourself now! July is very muggy there! Also, being 33, you will most likley be seen as more mature and put in positions of authority over other recruits. So keep that in mind. Hopefuly you have been getting in shape and just stay focused, motivated, stay out of trouble, follow instructions and just remember basic does not last forever. Good luck!!

men and girls practice jointly yet stay in separate barracks. it is going to be warm and humid. The DI's when I went with the aid of made us drink a canteen of water each and every nighttime before mattress. you will carry it with you the place ever you bypass. you would be older than some and youthful than some. no person is going to grant a crap approximately your age. it particularly is a head game. in case you may bypass your PT attempt it particularly is 0.5 the conflict. shop your mouth close and ears open.

The heat is going to be brutal. Start trying to get your body used to working out in it now. Start slow and work your way up a few more minutes each day. Stay hydrated.

Generic Advil is my choice for pain. You will live though. You may be a magnet for advice simply due to your age. Be kind to the kids.

It's difficult going thru with kids (I went twice, 1970, 1981). Common sense and an even temper help. We had women with us and they seemed to do as well as men except for foot and ankle injuries were more prevalent for them (or so it seems). I would advise trying to get as in shape as you can with exhausting yourself now. Lot of marching, running and exercise to come. Best of luck!
