Judaism originated with God's call upon Abram's life, when he lived in Ur of the Chaldees (near Babylon.). Formal Judaism begins with the 12 Tribes of Jacob (Israel)(Abram's great grandchildren) as they follow Moses through the wilderness of the Sinai to the Promised Land.
(Abram's name was later changed by God to Abraham.)
