I don't think the number is as high as 54 million, but I am not buying that the number is as low as 12 to 18 million. I am thinking more like 30 million (give or take).

I think 12,000,000 is high! Regardless, I think it's a national disgrace that our government couldn't prevent twelve million people from entering this country illegally. Imagine that! Our government, the people we elect and pay to serve and protect us, couldn't prevent 12 plus million poor, uneducated people from sneaking into this country! Of all the responsibilities our government has, I think that's in the top ten.
Why would I believe their statistics? Your 50 million guess is probably more accurate.

Tony Snow said that they caught and turned back 1 million illegals last year at the border. If they caught that many how many more made it through? Probably several million. Multiply that by the last 20 years and you got 40+ easily.

No, I believe it is more than 20 million & suspect the illegal alien propaganda arm is downplaying the number in the US.
Chuckle, the latest numbers I hear from them is 10 to 11 million, but they will readily admit to having no idea as to the real number here.

It's way higher than 12 million. And when they get amnesty, 50 million more will arrive.
