define "good money". and it depends on your spending habits. do you absolutely have to have the hoit rod and all fifteen types of video game systems and every game out there? do you have to eat out five times a week or go to bars every weekend? then no, you won't be making a whole lotta money.
But if you can survive living in the barracks, eating in the chow hall and just having a beater car, you can save lots.

If you go active you will make under min. wage you will get paid more for having a wife and children. Some of the marines that I went to Iraq with had what's known as a contract marriage(it's not allow) but it's when you pay someone like $100 a month or so to marry you and you can both tell others you are single. It's really a stupid thing to do. If you want to find out there is a few web sites that will tell you exactally how much you'll make at each rank.

Yes, a single guy in the military makes decent money. As long as you aren't coming in with a lot of debt. Most of the guys I know blow their money every week on stupid stuff, but if you're smart about it you'll come out ahead. Like a previous answer eat in the chow hall, and you live in the barracks you can ride in someone elses car...just chip in for gas. And if you deploy to Iraq or other combat zone it's all expenses paid and you'll come back with around 10,000 to 15,000 dollars. Not to mention all the medical, dental, and education benefits you'll receive that will save you money down the road. It's a solid choice.

Live in the barracks, eat in the dining hall, and that makes your paycheck all yours to save or spend -- as opposed to paying rent, utilities, groceries, child care. With some self-discipline, you could do great.
Getting married and having kids - yeah, you get additional allowances then, but they don't even come close to covering the actual additional expenses.

Visit www.dod.mil and look at the pay scales. It depends on rank, time in service, location, and dependants. Your pay only changes once for dependants, so once you get married thats it. No extra money for kids.

depends on rank. But I would say no. Get married and throw away all your condoms its baby making season. You get additional housing money and pay rate will go up immediately.

Yes the pay is good, because you have no living expenses. Soldiers with family to support are the ones hurting.
