the heat, and the products used in the salons play a big role. The sprays, serums , etc r all good for achieving glossy hair

use a silcone based product on your hair before your straighten (like biosilk) make sure your straightener is hot and use a ceramic one, some straighteners are ceramic over a metal base.. it's the same as using metal

the reason it's smoother is because the cuticle of your hair has been smoothed ..

another trick, make your final rinse of your hair with cool water.. when you use hot water the cuticle opens, the cool water will seal the cuticle and seal your conditioner in..

they really don't use anything special even though the sometimes try to make you think they do. salon based products are better for your hair, but most of the newer products out there are just as good.

one of the tricks they often use at salons is the mix shampoos and conditioners.. they may use one shampoo the first shampoo but the second one they'll use something else.. then they may put 4 or more conditioners in your hair (yes they sometimes charge more for doing this, Ulta calls that a deluxe conditioning treatment)

It seals the hair cuticles and the use of smoothing serums and shine sprays also give the hair a more glossy appearance.

Conditioners and shiners help, but when hair is straight, either naturally or with a straightening iron, the cuticle is smoother, and thus reflects more light than curly hair.

It flattens the hair cuticle, making the hair shinier and softer. The cuticle on damaged hair is usually open from chemicals or heat or trauma, whereas the cuticle on healthy hair is closed. Straightening helps to flatten it.

When you straighten your hair, the heat smoothes out the hair folicle, which is why it feels smoother.
