Yes... Childhood is the most formative years. And children who grow up in an abusive environment go either one of 3 ways...
A. They think that that is just the way life is supposed to be, and continue on with what is familiar and comfortable, although it may not be what it right.
B. They grow up believing they are the cause of the abuse. That something they did wrong made their loved ones strike out at them. By the time they are adults, they usually have no self esteem and make an easy target for an abuser on the prowl.
C. They fight back and realize that being in an abusive relationship is NOT healthy and do whatever they can that is in their power to assure they do not end up with someone who is going to treat them with any sort of violence.
Either way, you're looking at a 66% chance that they're going to stay with the devil they know.

It is fairly common that those who are abused in childhood are comfortable in the role of victim or martyr. Self-esteem is very difficult to develop in adulthood after spending one's formative years being treated like dirt.

sometimes, but most alos hide away from any kind of relationship or guys themselves. some who are done hiding sometimes find another abusive guy and some find a sweat caring guy. but it also depends on what kind of abuse your talking about.

i dont know personally, but ive heard that those type of women tend to go for the same abusive type.

yeah thats the theory. my therpist told me about it. tis called "the abuse cycle " girls learn thats how to be treated and seek the same kind of relatoinships as they get older. though being aware of it helps. u can TRY to find someone non abusive. though i thought id found somomne liek that but just found somoene abusive anyway...

It's really common for that to happen but it also depends on the type of abouse when it started and how it affected the person.
