Could be, but Catholics and other Christians do not worship Mary with the honor of adoration which belongs only to God.

Well, where else do you think Luke learned so much about the angel Gabriel visiting Mary and about Jesus' birth and infancy? He did plain old ordinary research! He also interviewed Mary at some point. Otherwise, how did he know that "Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart"? LK 2:51 -- his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
1"Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3Therefore, since I myself have CAREFULLY INVESTIGATED everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught" (LK 1:1-4).

Uh, no I don't! Mary wasn't taken into John's home so he could "worship" her. It was customary for a woman without male family members to be "taken in" by a trusted male figure. She was to become a part of his household and to be treated as he would treat his own mother. Where did you come up with "but we are not to worship her?"

This was a request from Jesus to do in his behalf.
As the oldest son, it was Jesus responsibility to look after his mothers physical and spiritual needs.
We know that Jesus had at least 5 half brothers who may not have put faith in him at that time.
That is why Jesus asked his cousin and Apostle, John to look after his mother for him because he was going to die.
There was no fighting over her because they were beginning to understand what it meant to be true Christians and have Love among themselves as the identifying mark of discipleship.

Not to mention that since Jesus had no siblings, he had to ask an apostle to care for his mother.

No he took her as his concubine. Joseph was already dead and she needed a husband. Of course he worshiped her in all her shining Glory after all she was the mother of God. Don't you think the emasculate mother of God should be worshiped? And after God wow she did enjoy getting laid.
