I got cellulitis in my arm from an injection at a doctor's office. It's been about two weeks (on antibiotics) and the redness and swelling has gone down, but it still hurts and it feels like bugs are crawling around in my arm. Has anyone had this and knows how long I can expect this type of thing? Could there be nerve damage?

Go back to your doctor immediately! My grandpa gets it in his legs often because of his age and it can lead to other problems. If you get a high fever, go to the emergency room. Don't just sit around waiting for it to get better.

I have cellulitis in my breast where I had cancer. I've been on IV antibiotics for 12 days and am also taking oral antibiotics. It is slowly getting better. The nurse at the hospital as well as someone on my bc support group said it can take up to three weeks.

I have had cellulitis twice, it comes with a high fever and takes about two weeks to clear provided you take your antibiotics. Yes, it does have to be cleared surgically if you let it go. My son had it and had to have surgery, it was on his leg and by the third day it had to be surgically taken care of and he was in the hospital for ten days. He had the very resistant variety. Go to your doctor if the antibiotics dont work or if you get worse, as fast as you can.

Go back to the doctor. You may need a stronger antibiotic. I had cellulitis on my face this winter and it took several rounds of antibiotics, increasingly stronger to finally knock it out.

You need to see your doctor. The antibiotics may not be correct. Cellulitis lasts different periods of time depending on multiple factors: Age, overall health (diabetes, etc...), site of infection, pus pockets, and appropriate early antibiotics.

If it is indurated (hard), there may be a pus pocket that needs to be drained. Antibiotics are only partally helpful.
