OK...if you have the blade sharp already with sharpening stone...you are on the right track; now it is time to change to something finer to sharpen with...ceramic rods are the way to go at this point...face it the knife is sharp, now you need to polish that edge even finer...start to hone the edge the same way as when you where using the stone and you will notice the rod will start to gain a black streak...this is exactly what your lookin' for...if you take the time i guarantee it will shave you when your done...and don't shave to many little places on your arm testing it out, sharpening mange looks like hell...if you still feel the need to go farther (though you should be fine by now) you can finish it off with a barber strop... (look for what you need to sharpen at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks)...hope I have helped fellow knife enthusiast..

I am a huge believer in the Lansky Knife sharpening kit. I make some knives for sale. I use this sharpener before the knife goes out the door. It shaves hair on my arm. Type of steel isn't as important as stone and angle.

A 25 degree angle sharpened on Damascus or stainless,or AT 34, all does the same thing. Diamond stones work well but so do regular Arkansas. A top of the Line Lansky kit will cost about 70 bucks nowadays and replacement stones aren't cheap. The trick is keeping an exact angle repeatedly over the whole process. Finer stones will make it sharper but the finer edge dulls a little quicker.

Finds someone that has this kit and he will probably sharpen the knife for you free of charge. Takes, at most, a half hour and that is with a beer and BS-ing.

Damascus will rust fairly easy so always clean and coat with protectant.

Check out knife-sharpening in the Yellow-pages. If you are near any major city, you should see quite a few listings. Call and find out if they do Laser-Sharpening which will give it a good edge but should not hurt the steel or finish.

Good luck and clean the fingerprints off it every time anyone handles it.

Give excellent guidelines for sharpening a variety of knives. Remember to get a very keen edge you need 1 angle to get the edge and then the 2nd to really put an edge on.
