they aren't "supposed" curse at you, and they aren't supposed to touch you either, but what goes on between a recruit and his drill instructor should be kept right there. when i went through i had a drill instructor that would spit when he got in your face yelling. but then again that was back in 86, i was poked with a pen and cursed at but not loudly more in my ear just so i could hear it. you have to realize that it's a new day and it's more like a regular job nowadays

Yeah I hear these things as well. Both of my in-laws are former Marines who met at Paris Island in the 1950's.

I don't understand why we are doing these kinds of things with the training. Personally I want the baddest, meanest , sons of a gun standing between me and the North Koreans, etc. If a Marine can't handle boot camp and insults, than what is he going to do when a North Korean tries to bayonet him???

History is a great teacher of the importance of harsh, realistic training. The best trained troops prevail. The German Waffen SS and Gross Deutschland Divisions had incredibly harsh training and this training sustained them even as they suffered horrendous losses in Russia and Normandy. The same is true of US Paratroops, who were at the hottest points at Normandy, Arnhem, and Bastogne. And the US Marines....is there any other group of men who could have stormed Tarawa, Peleliu, or Iwo Jima and absolutely destroyed the Japanese defenders who among all the world's soldiers actually did fight to the last round.

We must remember that what our Armed Forces will face in a war is so much more terrible than anything they will face in training. But again, look at the armies that prevail and you will see that they are almost always the best trained.

Hey I'm with you it is crazy and it is true. It gets even worse they aren't allowed to call them "recruits" they are to call them marines even though they didn't earn the title. That's because calling them recruits makes them feel like they aren't real people or some bull like that. It's unreal what will these new recruits do if the become a POW. Their gonna get scared and not know what to do. I know this because I was just stationed at Camp Pendelton, Cal. that's where some of the marine recruits go to train and I heard the same thing and I asked a drill instructor.

No its absolutely incorrect, they are gonna yell like a banshee, tell you your a nobody, a piece of **** recruit, if they changed the amount of pressure on a recruit and started "team building by being nice" that would be the army, thats why the Marines are better

When I went through in 02 they "couldn't" use foul language. Then I went to a black friday for a PME school in 05 and they could use foul language. Whether they can use it or not really depends on who's around though just like they couldn't put their hands on us.

Yes and they tuck in and kiss good night every recruit then carefully and gently awaken every morning. The recruits are also allowed weekends and holiday off.

Bleah!

I was screamed at and called every name in the book from 3AM till whenever we got to sleep that night. IF I was allowed to sleep.

I can just see Field First "Eich" and PSG
"Zeke" saying, oh, fiddlesticks, , I don't think you're grasping the fundamentals.,
or " Capt Lambie " saying, I want everybody ot reach down and see if they have a pair of kneecaps.

I think people need to toughen up. Quit wearing their hearts on their damn sleeves. People sign up knowing that they are going to get roughed up in Basic, but it makes them better soldiers (God Bless Them).
