my military ID expired so i went to get a california ID. The ID came in the mail a few days ago. It has the wrong gender. It says male I am obviously a female but i guess that doesnt matter now-a-days anybody can look like a women. anyways my aunt told me they wont let me fly. why? they cant do that because what about transgendered people or people with names that are not so typical for their sex, like my boyfriends name is sandy and i knew a guy in high school with the name Jan. It is a legal ID they cant stop me. I dont have time to get it fixed. Any input will help thnx.

Nobody will dare ask you why you have a female sounding name and look like a girl. They will be afraid of discrimination charges, because there are so many laws against such behavior, no-one knows when they are doing the wrong thing. So if they ask, are you actually a male, you say, are you making aspersions about my sexuality? They will say no, and shut up, as sex per se has nothing to do with the right to travel.

Call the airline that you are flying, but you might get different answers from different people. If you can get ANY kind of documentation faxed to you from an official office and take it with you to prove the mistake was made when your new ID was created, they the airline will probably accept it. Hopefully your new ID is in the works. Also when you travel take your passport and drivers license for backup.

Take you expired military ID with you. They don't look the expiration date anyway. Just the name and picture that match your boarding pass.
If it is an international flight you need a passport anyway.
Also I am surprised you did not take care of the mistake the day you received the ID and wait and ask in Y/A. Why the procrastination???

Believe me, they CAN stop you.
You need to go get it fixed and right away. Do you really want to take the risk that they will not let you travel? Don't fool yourself for a minute, they can stop you and there is nothing you can do about it at the time.
You can try to make it an issue, but you really don't have an argument. Fact is your ID is wrong therefore it can easily be claimed that it is not valid.
Just go on Monday and get it changed.

If it has the wrong gender on it, then it doesn't seem like it could be a legal ID.
