a friend of mine is 8 months pregnant......and she doesnt know when she can go on her maternity leave or how long her maternity leave is for and if she can use the short term disability for compensation.........any help?

It all depends if she is eligible for FMLA....If not then it may up to the doctor to put her off work. http://www.dol.gov/elaws/esa/fmla/faq.asp

The state has nothing to with IT! She needs to get the benefit employees handbook to see what's up with that.

She can call their HR department who can give her the info.

Short term is typical for maternity leave which is at 100% salary depending on the short term she has available during her tenure.

You can start when your doctor says you shouldn't be working any more.

The length of the paid leave, if any, is up to the company. Short term disability can normally be used for childbirth. Family Medical Leave under FMLA allows employees who qualify up to 12 weeks of leave, but it doesn't have to be paid.

She should check with her employer to find out what's available to her. I'd have thought she'd have already asked by now.
