The short answer is that the one, true Christian church does follow the early councils.
Pastorart, where does the Bible say, "don't go beyond the Bible"? If you can show me where, I will renounce the Catholic Faith - that's how sure I am that you are wrong.
Yes, God gave us the Bible. But the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, had to decide which writings belonged in the Bible.
I also challenge you to show me where one council contradicts another. Please, if you have this evidence, email me. If not, stop spreading your lies.
Wayne, the canon of scripture was widely disputed until church councils in the late fourth century settled the matter. It is dishonest - or mistaken - to say that the books of the Bible were generally agreed on.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for teaching the traditions of men as Biblical doctrines. What you are talking about is pretty much the same thing, and a lot is going to depend upon whether one is Roman Catholic, or a Protestant Christian.

The Bible says everything we need to do and follow.
The Bible says don't go beyond the Bible.
God gave us the Bible, not church councils.
Church councils and Popes have been contradicting themselves for years. If you follow one, you are disobeying three others.

Nah, your are confused.
Christians follow Christ, not tradition, church , or creeds. God alone gave us the Bible. The early church just agreed with God-finally. But now, they seem to have forgotten Him.

Christians are people who have faith in Christ. They incorporate the Catholics and the Protestants. they do no longer incorporate the old testomony Fundamentalists, the non secular ideal of the rustic. those human beings are not any greater Christian than Usama bin encumbered yet they declare to be. Christianity is a faith of affection, tolerance and attractiveness. We see so little of it between the god-botherers.

The Protestants just have issues with "tradition".
I used to, but I'm becoming more open to the truths of the Catholic Church.
