Don't scrub with your nails, use your fingertips or fingerpads. You could scratch your scalp and cause problems. Here is what I do and I would say that I get my hair clean.
Put shampoo in hand and rub palms together and then rub palms through hair. Then begin massaging the shampoo through your hair, concentrating on the scalp. I usually massage the shampoo on the scalp for about a minute. Then I begin pushing the shampoo through the hair with my fingers to get the longer strands clean. I also concentrate on the areas of my scalp where I have a tendency to sweat, my neckline, behind and in front of my ears. Then I rinse, rinse, rinse. That is almost more important than the shampooing. If you leave any shampoo in your hair, it dulls your hair and can make it get dirty faster. If you use a conditioner (which you should) just put conditioner on the drier ends of your hair, unless your scalp is dry, then go ahead and rub a little into the scalp. Rinse well again.
I don't know what type of shampoo you use, but make sure it is formulated for your type of hair.

I'm not really understanding the jump rope analogy, but I just massage/scrub my scalp with my nails (not too hard) and work the rest of my hair into the lather, and rinse. Then I condition, but not the scalp because I don't want it to get too oily.

The way to shampoo hair
- apply a moderate amount of shampoo into palm
-Lather through hair
-Massage into scalp NO SCRUBBING (it irritates scalp)
-Make sure your hair is evenly coated
-Rinse well (without scrubbing) again due to the fact that it irritates scalp
Have fun keeping clean!

Put a dime sized amount of shampoo in your hands. Rub your hands together then rub your hands through your scalp. Shampoo does not need to be overdosed with it is just used to clean your hair and to be used mostly on your scalp. Then you can use the shampoo that is on your scalp to wash the rest of your hair.

wash your scalp with shampoo and let the shampoo run through your hair when you rinse. Don't put extra shampoo in your hair because it will dry it out and cause flaking and itchy scalp
