You need to see a doctor. It is possible that you have developed strep throat. If so, you will need to take antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. Untreated strep throat can lead to major complications later, such as scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, and kidney failure. Please get to a doctor as soon as possible. In the meantime, gargle with warm salt water and use throat lozenges that will help numb the throat. Drink plenty of fluids, but be careful with juices such as orange juice, that may pain the throat due to the acid it contains.

First, if you haven't seen a dr. you probably should and second, if you're not on an antibiotic you might need to be (even tho I've read they don't always prescribe them for tonsillitis)

One thing you really need to do no matter how much it hurts is to keep forcing the fluids down so you don't get dehydrated and end up in the hospital like I did
Another thing you can try is warm salt water gargles
And, as silly as it sounds - the thing that really helped me was chewing gum because I didn't really have to force myself to swallow for the juices, etc. to go down

I hope something helps and you feel better - good luck!

You need some antibiotics before you get any worse. Tonsilitis is an infection. You need to make an appt with the doctor now. See a school nurseor go to a free clinic if you don't have insurance. Make an appt now.

Hopefully by now this is only a memory. Chloreseptic spray was the most effective treatment when I had my tonsills removed.

try a good strong throat lozenge. cepacol or chloraseptic. make sure it has Benzocaine in it. will help numb your mouth and throat. make sure to get to a dr for an antibiotic. i was 30 years old and was gettin it so bad my airway was closing off from the swelling. ended up getting them out at 30 and it was HELL. please get to a dr and get some meds. if you can get it down,,,take some motrin, it helps with the swelling.
