so was explaining my beliefs to someone the other day, and they said "that sounds a lot like ?" i can't remember what they said. so if you have thoughts, i'd like to hear them

I belive that everything is connected. The universe is a big huge system and each planet is a smaller system that is part of that big universe, and so on. And we, as humans, are part of this system. I believe our actions affect others, even those we may never know. Kind of the whole "if a butterfly flaps it's wings" thing.

I don't believe in a soul, I don't believe in an afterlife, a god or gods, the human spirit, etc. When we die, we die. That doesn't mean we don't still have an impact after we're dead. Our thoughts and actions affected people, who in turn affect other people, and so on on so forth. So just because we die, doesn't mean we stop being "connected."

I also believe in a "higher self" in that there is a part of my brain and consciousness that I don't have access to (science backs this up, by the way). I meditate and I do so in order to clear my mind and to become calmer and get in touch with that "higher self." Basically, all that does is allow me to think more clearly about myself and situations in my life.

As a side note, I also believe that animals are part of this system and fall into the "connected" category as well. This isn't to say that animals have the same level of consciousness as humans do, but I do believe they have some sort of consciousness (how much varies from animal to animal). So that which we affect by being connected to it isn't just other humans, but animals also. As well as the natural environment (I don't think anyone could deny though that we do have a direct effect on nature).

sorry this is so long :(

bobbyhobbit: the fact that i affect other human and animals just by being is enough to me to give me a moral reponsibility to do my damnedest to make sure i'm affecting things in a good way. that's both my morality and my point in living.

We are part of the circle of life in the macro and micro universe.

That's all.

To understand, what i say, you first have to consider looking at things this way -
What if.......
Everything is energy - Everything. And everything has a different vibration a signature vibration. - every being, thought, word, sound, colour. Everything exists in the material world as a separate and different manifestation simply because their energy vibration is unique. (It's a bit like a rainbow - every colour of the rainbow is a different vibration, but it is still part of the rainbow.)
So when we have a feeling about something, we are subconsciously, in our minds matching the vibration of what we have just come into contact with, with some past event or place when we remember feeling the same way. If there is no match, we create one by association with the circumstances at the time.
Take for instance a song, i might love it because i was in a happy place when i heard it first, but you might hate it because you heard it played at a funeral. Every time we hear the song, the feelings we had when we first heard it come back to us.
So if i said, "that sounds a lot like .....", It means that in the words i heard, i have found the match to the feeling vibration and i know what it means to me because i have experienced it before, so i understand what it means to me.

This sounds like Jainism with some pseudo-karma, as an after-effect.
It is not a religion, but a way of thinking. It is in thinking these are beliefs, which are based on observations, that one is "connected" to the Universe.

Jainism is atheistic.

However, with such a view as yours, there seems to be no moral or ethical responsibility to do "good". So what would it matter doing either good or bad, if you saved one life or killed one life? It wouldn't matter, since you have limited responsibility for your actions?

Likewise there would be no reason to live or to die.

Peace
Robert

It sounds like the Hindu concepts of Karma but Hindus believe in reincarnation.
And of course, the butterfly effect which is related to the chaos theory, causality, domino effect etc.
I can't think of a precise religion that encapsulates these points though....sorry!

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home

Timothy Leary is dead....................
Explain your beliefs to yourself, and prove them for your own personal benefit.

On a serious note.
Remember a point in every direction is the same as no point at all!

Settle yourself down and find a path that will help you become focused and centered.
The Truth is out there, just search for it and all the things that you have asked shall be answered.

I'm behind you 100%, were all in this together!
