Backcombing = teasing hair.

Hold hair up & run a thin comb downwards to create volume.

Ye its combing up the hair.
Its crazy though dont do it. Girls in my school spend hours straightening their hair so its pretty and then ruin it by backcombing.
It also damages your hair.

kind-of....instead of combing down your hair, you comb up your hair, in the opposite direction of the cuticle. this is usually done near the root area, to give more volume. its common amoung "old lady" hair, since their hair is very thin, and they like it big and round lol its also used alot in updu's.
