She may be "backwards" sneezing. Several dogs I know and that come to the clinic I work at exhibit this. It looks like choking to most owners and is often accompanied by a snorting sound. They also suck air in in several little breaths instead of exhaling. It can last a few seconds or several minutes at a time. My dog looks like he's snarling and can't catch his breath, but quickly returns to normal.

Take your dog to a veterinarian immediately. She may have heartworm. This is a parasite spread by mosquitoes and only seems to affect dogs. It is very common. It affects all states of the USA and Australia. There are effective treatments. I once had an fox terrier -pomeranian- blue heeler that got it. After some treatments every 2 or so years he lived a long life for a dog.

My dog does this thing where she is kind of hacking like trying to get something out of her throat, or more so like it is irritated. I'm an allergy sufferer and this thing she does reminds me of my allergy symptoms.
I give her benedryl now and she doesn't do it. Get it checked by a vet, of course, but maybe she has perrenial allergies.
***Don't get me wrong though, I did take her to the vet for it at first. They feared it may be a collapsed trachea, but ran test and she was fine. A collapsed trachea is something vets treat very seriously and symptoms can be coughing, hacking--like trouble getting enough air. Get her checked for that.

Could be damage to her trachea caused by a choke collar or just yanking on her leash too much. If that's the case, the damage is done. Not much chance of fixing it. WHY must people use those damn pinching choke chains and collars?!
If she tugs too much on her leash, make her stop and sit. Every time. That will teach her not to pull and teach her that pulling will make her wind up having to stop and sit.

Sounds like it may be what is commonly called "reverse sneezing". It's the soft tissue in the back of the mouth prolapsing and is more common in small dogs, although all dogs do it. It can be triggered by excitement.
You can stop the episode by cupping your hand over her muzzle and applying gentle pressure to her nostrils or by softly stroking her throat.

She might have phlegm in her throat. This can be caused by allergies. If you can't take her to the vet right away, try giving her a dosage of benadryl. my dog has allergies and our vet recommended 1-2 pills a day for 10 days. my dog is 34 pounds, so the dosage shouldn't be too much for her. you should at least call the vet and ask, though!! it could be serious!!

Our family have been through 6 dogs (different breeds) over the years. All of them have gone through the same thing. But nothing bad (healthwise) really happen. So I guess there is nothing to worry about.

Well it could be many things... allergies, or does she wear a choker chain? if so, it could be pulling on her throat/esophagus and causing her to cough. My dog coughs a lot because he has congestive heart failure and that's one of the symptoms. You should take her to the vet and let them check her out... it might be as simple as allergies but it could be something more.

My dog licks so much he as hair balls and I have to use laxatone on him. You might get her checked out to rule out any serious problems such as something stuck in her throat, or a upper respiratory infection or abscess. That is what You would do if you were honking isn't it?

My dog does this all the time!!
His trachea collapses, so he coughes and it forms again. That is what the vet says.
probably the same with your baby.
You might want to go to the vet, but it is nothing to worry about .
