I’ve never heard of the study that Mike E spoke about but if it’s true there are just too many variables to use that type of thing in real life situations. Drugs or alcohol or even the lighting can cause fluctuations in the pupils. I’m sure if there was an accurate way to determine if a person is lying by looking at their pupils it would be taught to police investigators and I’ve been a cop for twenty-five + years and never heard of such a thing. For example, when it was determined that when a person is intoxicated and you have them look at an object and follow it with their eyes that their eyes will began to bounce at approximately 45 degrees (horizontal gaze nystagmus test) this was taught throughout the country as a fairly reliable way to determine if a driver is intoxicated. Of course even with this test there could be other causes such as pathological or physiological disorders and the only way to really tell if a person is intoxicated is with a breath or urine test.

In 1975, a University of Chicago biopsychologist coined the term "pupillometrics", which refers to the evaluation of one’s pupil size as an indicator of interest or emotion. Hess discovered that when someone looks at something that causes positive feelings (or even just sparks interest), the pupils dilate—whereas the pupils contract when the person looks at unpleasant or uninteresting things. Although this does not immediately answer if someone is lying, it does show that pupil size can represent someone's emotions.

The Gestapo would have you believe that people's pupils will dilate because of the increased blood flow when the heart speeds up. There are some other factors but it only works about half the time. Try firing somebody for lying to you because their pupils got bigger when you asked them a question.
This is used by police to establish probable cause; which is a moot point because the Gestapo in most states don't need probably cause to bust you anymore.

Dont just go by the eyes. Go to this website and learn a little about statement analysis. It is good reading. Look at some of the case studies. www.statementanalysis.com. It is more about the way their eyes move than the pupils. You have to establish a norm by how they answer truthful questions. When they lie, the eyes will go the opposite directions as when truthful.

Pupils react to light. Lying should not make them change. People think that liars can't look people straight in the eyes and lie, but I've had it happen many times to me.

no, your eyes won't larger or smaller. There are some telltales that are used, but none that are ironclad. Even a pathalogical liar will pass a lie detector test.
I can only say that actions speak louder than words.

They get bigger because of adrenaline. Adrenaline makes your senses better, and wider pupils collect more light.

I always thought liars blinked more often than truth-tellers...and they also get the forehead wrinkles.
