The CDC website states that no more than 6 to 8 Grams a day, liver damage is very likely, if you exceed this dosage.Toxic effects to the liver can happen with only a short usage span.I extra strength Tylenol = 500mg. 1 Gram =1000mgs. so you shouldn't exceed taking 2 Tylenol tablets every 4-6 hours. Many cold medicines and others have acetaminophen or Tylenol added to their formulas, some don't make that clear on the labels. Be careful. SW RNP

Never take more than the dosage listed on the bottle. Acetaminophen may be over-the-counter, but it's still a powerful drug. It can cause bad liver damage if you take too much. I know people that take a Tylenol, are amazed that their headache isn't gone ten minutes later, and take two more. That's a very dangerous thing to do.

My ex-boss, a lawyer, had a brother who was a doctor. He claimed that his doctor brother said you could take double any over the counter medication without any problems. I have exceeded the maximum daily dosage of a medication; however, it was not to prove the drug makers that they were wrong. It was in an attempt to get some RELIEF!

Depends on the strength. If extra strength acetaminophen, adults should not take more than 8 (500 mg) caplets a day. Children should not take extra strength tylenol.
For more information consult the package directions.

The maximum daily dose is 4 grams (4000mg). Most websites list this as their answer.

No more than 1000 mgs. but remember that the liver has a hard time breaking it down and it's better to go with ibuprophen. It's easier and does just as well if not better!

an adult should take no more than 4g (or 4000 mg) per day. always check to see if you're taking regular strength (200 mg) or extra-strength (500 mg).
