I'm advocating for Yahoo to limit the character length for answers, as well. Any support?

bouken: Then, I assume your answer is now in the wrong section as well?

bouken (the saga continues): <>

Well? If a question is posted in the wrong section...and it's answered...then the answer would, as a matter of course, also be posted in the wrong section, would it not?

bouken: <>

The question is generic and applies to all sections, R&S as well, IMO. We seem to have a difference of opinion and that's okay. You did answer the question. Your answer didn't address the specifics of the question...but it was an answer.

Noted. :o)

Thanks to everyone who took time to respond. While the question does not lend itself to a best answer, I'm faced with picking some answer as best.

Pontification and brevity rarely go together.

No way. While I utterly hate copy and paste plagiarists, sometimes I need to write a lengthy response to make my point. One-liners are for comedians.

Edit: Actually, there already is a limit to how much typed text an answer can contain. Somehow, the copy and paste artists circumvent that limit. Reducing the length of a typed response won't do a thing to minimize rampant cut and paste abuse.

It might be to shorten the Questions for the ease of the readers.

While we have to limit our questions to 110 characters as only available, but it could be made up by elaborating the question further through the next Details column which has the limit of 1000 characters.

I think that could serve our purpose.

No, at least not from me. I tend to give long answers because I always want to make certain that I am explaining things completely...not just giving an off the cuff answer that could be misinterpreted. I would however agree that answers should not simply be the result of cutting and pasting long lists of items or whatever.

this is really in the wrong section....

*added*
lol what? how can an answer be in the wrong section? i was searching R&S, which this question is not about. oh you mean because i didn't answer the question? fine.

I don't think answers should be limited in length. Questions should be kept short because answerers don't want to read insanely long questions. or at least i don't.

Well, some questions require longer answers. It would certainly cut down on the amount of "cut and paste", but I think its impossible to determine the number of characters that any random answer would require.

some questions cannot be answered with just a few words my friend. How can a person answer the question what is the purpose of life with just a few words.

No way, I sometimes post long answers because I have to provide lengthy explanations and numerous citations.

Yes, that would limit the amount of cut and paste some of these people could inflict upon us.
