A hole? Is it a little hole in the skin or the hole that all young vertebrates have in their skull before it totally fuses? If it is the skull, I wouldn't worry about it. Human skulls don't completely fuse until about 25 years of age, so it should be fine. If it is in the skin, there may be fly larvae that need to be removed. Call the vet.

My chihuahua has the same thing but she is almost a year old now. When I took her to the vet they said that her "molera" or "soft spot" was bigger than normal and that I needed to be really careful around her head. Chihuahuas are the only dogs who have this condition, it is hereditary. Some chihuahua's skulls grow together and others do not. Just make sure (especially as a puppy) that nothing falls on her head and that kids don't push on it. And no it should not hurt her unless it gets hit.

you should be going to the vet anyway...for shots and check ups...and NO its not normal at all..when have you EVER seen a dog with a hole in the head? before you buy a dog or cat you should insist on vet proof that the dog has seen a vet...
sorry but I am angry at whoever may have taken advantage of you and sold you a dog that may be in a very serious health condition. Dont mean to scare you but go to the vet, don't even take the time to shut down your computer....we animal lovers well all say the same thing...

It is an open fontanel, not uncommon in toys. She is still very young, it can take up to a year for it to close, but it *may* never completely close.
It is a genetic problem and can show up in the best show lines. The show breeders will try to eliminate the problem but many pet breeders won't care. If the breeder doesn't care, buy from a better breeder next time.
Dogs can live a completely normal, long life with an open fontanel, but you will have to be extra careful with her.
There is nothing a Vet will do. Feed her a high quality diet to ensure she is getting all she needs for good bone development.

You are probably talking about the molera(open fontanel), soft spot. If it is small there should be no problem but if it is large your dog could have hydrocephalus which is a very serious condition. Take her to the vet to be examined if you haven't done so already! I had a chi with hydrocephalus and ir is a serious medical condition.

if you are talking about in teh skull yes that is one of teh trade marks of a chihuahua and open ing where it seems like the skull should be closed.
It should be fine but at teh next vet visit ask the vet if it is ok or possibly to big. this is there the whole lidfe and you need to be carefull as it is a place where the brain can be damaged don't bother it.

This could be just their "soft spot" where the plates of the skull meet like babies have. With Chihuahuas this sometimes takes longer to fill in than with other dogs.
You might want to take it to the vet, just to be sure.

whilst the dogs starts off to bark, scold him with an enterprise "Quiet" "sufficient" "end it" or maybe, "No barking". asserting "No" merely sounds to a dogs such as you're returning their bark. If he barks returned, use a twig bottle full of water, and utilising a displeased tone, repeat your selected command. Tone of voice is particularly substantial. somebody with a susceptible tone and physique language gets an exceptionally distinctive reaction than somebody who's particularly assertive and robust in tone. Your dogs could repeat barking. do no longer provide up. stay calm and repeat your adverse-toned "sufficient". do on no account hit your dogs except this is area of a conflict to interrupt up a combat with yet another animal or a guy or woman. some human beings have faith that utilising a rolled up paper to make a noisy noise could reason your dogs to end barking. it particularly isn't useful and generally has adverse outcomes. Scaring your dogs isn't suggested. stay faraway from utilising newspapers and in no way hit your dogs.

Most Chihauhua's are born with this. It's called the Molera. It's perfctly normal. In some dogs it will eventually close over. In many it does not.
You can read more on the Molera here about halfway down: http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-2062,subcat-PETS.html
