Okay, so my puppy is 6 weeks old and the breeder actually raised them indoors and started the training process, but I do not see it being successful. I cage train my puppy. I put him in a cage when I'm gone, at work, and at night (he hates it!!!). I have been leaving him outside A LOT to go potty. He does potty and poop in his cage if I dont wake up in the middle of the night to let him out on time. I keep a clean house and I keep his cage clean as well. What is the best practice for potty training him. Rewards? Treats? Praise? How often should I be letting him out? What do you suggest?

I guess I should tell you....when I catch him using bathroom in the house I pick him up and lightly smack his nose, put his face near the mess (not in it) and tell him no and take him directly into the yard. I then praise him when he goes outside.

when you see the puppy going clap your hands together real loud and yell no then take him outside to the same spot. also take him out after he eats, drinks, and sleeps. if you play with him take him out also. when you see his butt drop just clap your hands together loud that scares them and he will stop. but what ever you do don't slap him it will make him scared of people.i also have a 6 week old great dane as well keep doing that and he will get it. remember he is still a baby.

First off your puppy is too young to be away from mom and littermates. It is against the law for a puppy to be bought sold, adopted or given away before it has completed it's 7th week and in some states 8 weeks.
I'm assuming since you have him so young that he didn't come from a responsible breeder.

He is too young to hold it for any length of time as of yet.

Do NOT leave him outside to potty..take him out stay with him until he goes and then praise him..he needs to be taken out every hour to hour and a half (maybe even more because of age), after eating, before and after play, after naps..He also needs to be taken out at least twice during the night.
Do NOT punish him for accidents 1) he can't help it because he's just not old enough 2) calling attention to an accident simply rewards the action...do not call attention to it simply take him outside and clean up the mess useing a good cleaner. Do not expect him to be 100% reliable either before he is 6 mnoths old. It takes time and patience to house train a puppy especially when they are that young. He is basicly still an infant.

To potty train any dog, I always use the same meathod. You will feel like an absolute idiot when you do it, but i have gotten all my dogs potty trained within a week of me recieving them, no matter the age. It is also a very humane way. When the dog does it business inside, fuss at the business on the floor, not at the dog. This only works if the dog actually sees this. So I usually get the dog by the collar, and then fuss. It is also necessary to take the puppy out as often as possible to prevent these mistakes,( however when training an adult dog, they usually can hold it a bit longer.) Good luck with the training, and enjoy the puppy ( they grow way too fast!)

Goats really cannot be potty trained. I live on a farm and have many goats. They have no control over when they go to the bathroom. They go whenever they need to and they go ALOT! I have known many people that have had goats in their house- as pets. Their goats usually end up at my farm because they cannot be potty trained. Also, as they get older, they start to jump on everything and they do become very destructive house pets. As for the chewing- goats always do this. It is natural for them to be constantly chewing on things. My goats will chew on my friend's clothes when they're not looking. It's just something they do and I don't think you would be able to break it from this habit. Another problem you might have in the future is if you don't have a companion for the goat like a dog or another goat, it will see you as part of its "herd" and it will constantly yell when you leave it alone. It will become very annoying- especially at night. I'm not saying you shouldn't keep the goat as a pet, I'm just saying that if you do want it as a pet it will take some getting used to and you might have to pick up after it alot. One alternative would be to build some type of shelter in your back yard- like a dog kennel with a hut or something. If you have a fenced in yard, the goat could probably just stay outside. You could still bring it inside alot and still treat it as a pet, but if it spent more time outside, it would mean less picking up after it. I wish you good luck and I hope everything works out- you sound like you love it alot.

First he shouldn't leave his mother until 8 weeks. he is to young to be from mom.
the crate you have him in is probably to big for training try to get a divider.
he should be going out about every 4-5 hours if not more.
They don;t get full control until about 6 months.
Do not hit him and don't pick him up by picking him up you are training him if he potties in the house he will be picked up as well as in a few months you won't want to be picking him up.
If you catch him give a firm no and walk outside and praise when he is good.
As far as night time for now you may need to get up at least 2 times a night so he can relieve himself also don't feed him very late so he has a chance to relieve himself before he goes to bed.
I go to bed at 10 so my dogs and pups don't get fed after 6 and the water is picked up at 8 and then I get up about 6.

the cage or the crate should be big enough for him to stand up in but not big enough to use the bathroom on one side and stay on the other. they wont want to go where they sleep/lay/eat and then will learn to hold it. just remember to take him directly out side as soon as you get home so he starts to put two and two together. also puppies need to go to the bathroom the number of hours that they are months. so say hes two months old he will need to go every two hours. 3 months, 3 hours and so on and so forth. and praise him when ever he goes outside. also if he isnt feeling that he is getting enough attention he needs and when he goes to the bathroom in the house he may be doing it because even bad attention is attention. so instead of scolding him you should clap loudly or say NO! to startle him into stopping and then pick him up and take him out side for the remainder of the business. oh and about 20 minutes after he eats or drinks you should take him outside.

Whenever he 'goes' outside, praise him and give him a treat. What your doing inside is just fine. Keep it up
