We don't like s(asterisk) because it's better for our survival to stay away from it.

Flies love it because it's a vital source of nutrients for their grubs. Their sensory organs are set up to detect the stuff at great distances.

Both organisms evolved their respective responses to the stuff because having those attitudes gave them a reproductive and survival advantage over those without them.

No gods necessary. Just time.

The Human Appendix, by the way, is a perfect example of the limits of evolution. The caecum present in some herbivores is of no use to use, so it should have disappeared. But it can't.

It's shrunk as far as it can go, and already its blood supply is so reduced that the damn thing becomes dangerously infected in many people. Any smaller and everyone would get appendicitis, and in the old days they would die of septicaemia.

So: bigger appendix= waste of protein; smaller appendix=death. So we're stuck with them, because there's no evolutionary path out of the Catch-22.

Because it provides everything a fly needs to bring forth a new generation. Moisture, left over proteins and a soft medium in which to lay the eggs. They also like rotting food, damp soybean meal etc....and for the same reason. Also, when the little magots hatch out, they eat the available food causing it to further decay and go back to the land...i.e. soil. Intelligent design..you bet.
