Ok, first of all, I'm not a groomer. However, I do work at a vet clinic where we have a very good groomer. We do use tranquilizers because there are some dogs you just can't touch. They don't want to meet new people and owners will tell you that up front. But we don't tranquilize them unless it's absolutely necessary or the owner asks for it. We never do it without permission when the animal is dropped off. There is always a vet present as well.
Also, we do use fans to dry dogs. The fans have several levels and can be hot, warm, or cool air. I've never seen a dog "scorched".
I would just recommend that you accompany your dog to wherever you choose to take him/her and see for yourself whether you like their technique and handling of your pet. Ask however many questions you need to ask, because no matter who it is and how great they are, you need to be comfortable with whoever is caring for your pet for any length of time.

I definitely think this grooming service would be a good place for your dog. I especially like this part of their grooming page:

"Our philosophy in the grooming area is to make it as pleasant an experience for your pet as possible. We calm them by talking to them and letting the really anxious ones wander around the office for a while to take the edge off.

However, we never use tranquilizers!

Our groomer and bathers are dedicated "dog people" and that translates into the handling of the pet and the dog "gets it!". Most of the time they end up with "dog kisses"..and that is very rewarding, especially after calming down a very nervous dog. Our groomer is very experienced in both clip and scissor cuts and strives to meet your need in every aspect. If in doubt she will call you and ask about your preferences and if you don't like it, we'll fix it!"

They sound OK but being familiar and actually knowing is two different things. I went to the New York School of dog Grooming and i have also gone to grooming conferences for updates on new breeds.
Sometimes buying the best doesn't mean anything.
For conditioner we were taught to use downy fabric softener liquid and it really works and so much cheaper.Unless a specific medicated shampoo ordered by the vet any shampoo is good.
So sounds like they might be out for the money.
