is that true LAPD is run by the government and Sheriff is run by the mayor I'm right or wrong.

The local city police is run by the city government and has a police chief, the sheriff's office is run by the county government headed by an elected sheriff.

LAPD is the city police they answer to the city council and the mayor. LA Sheriff, is a higher authority and answers to the county commissioners and the Governor. Both agencies can cover the same areas when requested, The deputies are considered executive officers. That means that you can lie to a police officer and it isn't a crime by itself (although they can charge you with obstructing) BUT, if you lie to a deputy sheriff, it is of itself a crime.

Police Departments have jurisdiction within city limits, and are funded and "run" by the City Counsil and the Mayor. Sheriff's Departments have jurisdiction throughout the County and are funded and overseen by the County Board of Supervisors.

City Police... County Sheriff...

Sheriffs work for & are paid by the County....{County Mounties}

LAPD work for & are paid by the city of Los Angeles......The LAPD is under the control of the Mayor of L.A.
