It does not to my knowledge acutally say that abortion is prohibited..however Jeremiah 1:5 says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you: Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations" . This is a very popular verse in the fight against abortion.. because it implies that God knew everything that we were going to accomplish before we were even conceived. With that being said it would also seem to imply that every person has a purpose, and that we are to carry out the pregnancy to term (miscarriages happen, I cannot explain that). I understand, that people get pregnant by rape, that children are born with disabilities, and that children get pregnant. There are extreme cases to ever scenario. Do I think abortion is wrong yes... Do I think it is a womans choice?Yes. Does the government hide a lot of facts that really take place regarding women that have abortions (such as statistics)? Yes.
The Bible does say an eye for an eye, and they did stone people in the old testament..not sure if that really constitutes capital punishment but hey..I am not sure what other references you would like since you specifically mentioned the Bible.

Killing without cause is a sin. It is called murder. And if you read the original text of the Bible, the word used means "to murder" or to kill without justification. That is often why people who are not real familiar with the Bible or its original language have a hard time understanding how capital punishment may be acceptable etc. It is the justification clause that makes the difference. An unborn child gives no reason for anyone to kill it. I am not saying I do not understand the pain and agony that having an unwanted baby can bring...but that does not justify the taking of a life...no matter how immature it is. Abortion is forever...pregnancy and child birth only lasts for nine months out of a life time. I can accept the fact that a woman might not want to raise an unwanted child...but to not have it...I do not accept.

There is really only one reference to abortion in the Bible. The commandment "Thou shall not kill" is often cited but that is clearly a mistranslation. The original would be better translated as "don't murder", and abortion has never been considered to be murder.
In the Bible Numbers 5 refers to a test for infidelity. Briefly, the woman is forced to take a "drug" and if she miscarries (aborts) then she's guilty. So the only time abortion is mentioned it is as a required abortion.

No where is abortion called murder or killing or even wrong in the Bible. And it is clear from the actions of God himself that abortion is not murder. God practices abortion in the form of miscarriage every day. And he chooses not to even mention that in the Bible. Not only does God do abortion, he encourages us to abort and gives us the means and knowledge needed to abort. So if abortion is murder, then one must conclude that God himself is a murderer.
It is clear why God aborts. He set up the world in such a way that by aborting, a person is actually saving the lives of other children. See http://www.prolifeismurder.com.

I think the religious amongst us will get this one easy peasy lemon squeezy. The Ten Commandments, of which one is -: Thou shall not kill----. Maybe some Islamic fundamentalists[their the ones who MURDER innocents] should try to keep to that and there would be no war in Iraq. Sorry how stupid of me it's all our fault[non Muslims] that there is carnage and wars all over. We should have said "sorry or excuse me" when those lovely young educated men flew the planes into the Twin Towers and The Pentagon. Open your eyes and think for YOURSELF and don't be led like lambs to the slaughter by the Preachers of Hate. I have no religious beliefs.

Someone answered that women didn't have abortions when Jesus was alive. That's absolutely wrong. Women have been causing miscarriages forever. There are all kinds of natural herbs and things that will cause a miscarriage. before abortions were legal women took vitamin c but now they don't have straight vitamin c available in most stores.

Grace (not law) unto you, and peace (not division),
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus -> Christ.
The Bible defines itself as "allegory" & "mystery";
And such is not to be taken literal, nor historical.
God saw only good x 6, then very good the 7th time.
Only law is "both good and evil", obviously ends evil.
That's why we are not under the law, but under grace.
Be enCOURAGEd by it; not accused nor condemned.
God didn't send his Son to condemn(law) the world: Jn 3:17;
But through him(Jesus->Christ) the world be saved(graced).
God's Son didn't accuse: Jn 5:45; nor condemn: Jn 8:3-11,
To the man, and the woman, it's said: sin(law) no more.
Only law imputes sin, and it's also a ministration of death.
So then, to be rid of sin and death, flush all law as if dung;
For by the using of ordinances(laws) all perish: Col 2:20-22.
Perish the thought, which is contrary to the knowledge of God.
Read the news. The dead sea is rapidly vanishing.
The vatican see is having troubled water getting priests.
The BIG Meltdown is melting frozen chosen hearts; And
the whole thing is going exponential, thanks to the www.
For Christ's sake ppl, AD->only goes one way, to the end:
The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord J->C with you->all. Amen.

There's no direct law banning abortion because such a thing did not exist when the Bible was written. The reason why it's seen as a sin because of one of the Ten Commandments that Moses received (I don't know which) states that killing of your fellow man is a sin outside of battle/war.
Hope that helps.

In the Old Testament it is written about the sin of murder. Included in the prohibition of murder is the accidental killing of a child in the womb. If the accidental killing is frowned on then the DELIBERATE taking of a child's life in the womb IS DEFINITELY SIN!!!

it doesn't say thou shall not commit abortion but it does say thou shall not murder. Come on, be real with yourself, you know that taking an innocent life is murder. So if the baby is born and taken out of the mother and its killed its murder but if its in the mother and its killed its not? Thats ridiculous, be real with yourself
