Heaven was a place filled with celestial harmony. All of heaven's creatures rejoyced in praising and honoring their Creator. Love, peace and joy reigned in the entire universe. Everything and everyone was in perfect harmony with the will of God. "Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth.Everything was created through Him and for Him. He existed before everything else began, and He holds all creation together."Colossians 1:16
Lucifer was perfect in beauty, a mighty angelic guardian. But his heart became filled with envy. He coveted what God had granted His son. Lucifer wanted honor and praise. He wanted to be worshipped. Isaiah 14:13,14 "I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God's stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb in the highest heavens and be like the most high."
"Thine heart was lifted because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness" Ezequiel 28:17 Lucifer created confussion and rebellion. Lucifer wanted to overthrow God. He wanted the angels to believe that God was unjust and unfair and this is the same lie he has been preaching to humans until this day.
As a result, God expelled Lucifer from heaven, along with millions of angels(about 1/3 the population)
But The Lord, merciful, gracious, slow in anger and rich in unfailing love; showed the world just how fair and just He is with His children. God's precious blood showed us the magnitude of His love.

According to John Milton in Paradise Lost, Satan rebelled against God because God appointed his son, later known as Jesus, to rule the earth. Satan who was most powerful next to God, didn't accept this. He led a bunch of other angels to rebel against God and was banished.

But...he was not God...and that was the issue. He thought very highly of himself...but He wasn't God. Also, when God created man, Satan was very jealous because suddenly God has a new favorite...more or less. Thus, he and his buddies rebelled and attempted to overthrow God. They lost...and they will lose again. It is only because God had loved him so much in the first place that he was allowed to have the earth for a time...otherwise he would have been immediately destroyed. This is "MY OPINION ONLY"

HE HAD BE GIVEN A FREE WILL TO OBEY OR DISOBEY
Satan was known as Lucifer, the most highest, most powerful and wisest creation of God.In Ezekiel, Chapter 28,verses 11-19, you will see that he was a perfect sinless spirit being -possessing a free will.Of all the created beings he was the sum total of perfection...perfect in beauty and full of wisdom v 12. LUCIFER held an exalted position as '' the anointed cherub,'' which was the high priestly function of leading creation in offering worship up to God (v 14). As the anointed cherub, Lucifer was giving the privilege of standing in the presence of God.Ezekiel 28:15 in the Amplified Version says about Lucifer:'' You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, UNTIL INIQUITY AND GUILT WERE FOUND IN YOU.'' Satan was perfect in all his ways from the day he was created until SIN was conceived IN HIS HEART. His heart became so filled with pride he looked upon God and his throne and considered himself to be equal with God (Isaiah 14:12).He had used the free will God had given him to conceive sin in his heart and rebelled against God. In his way he forfeited his exalted position and was cast out from the ''mountain of God'' (Ezekiel 28:16 )

Satan took his focus off of God, and placed it on himself. He turned away from God and decided to be his own god. He committed the unpardonable. His reliance on God was placed on himself.
