Used the Costco Auto Buying Program and went to the assigned dealership to buy a new car. Due to program, dealership can only charge me in between invoice and sticker. I had figured out the car could not cost more than sticker and added tax and $1000. for fees, but the dealership kept coming up $10,000. higher. What are all of these fees, and how can I figure what they are going to be before I go to the dealership, so I don't get robbed?

In addition to taxes, they're adding on licensing fees & destination charges. Some dealerships will try to add on their salesperson commission fee.

To figure out what these fees will cost, call up the DMV in your area. Ask them what to expect to pay to license the year, make & model of your car, with the mileage.

Destination charges are harder to figure out. Ask the dealership what their ballpark figure is. Hopefully, it's nothing outrageous. The more local you are when purchasing the car, the less the fees. This one's negotiable too. I'm always giggling to myself when I see new cars bought so far from where the person lives. I know they paid outrageous destination charges.

Also, you will NOT be able to leave with your car UNTIL you speak to your insurance agent. Most dealerships will let you use their phone or you can use your cell phone. If it's a weekend & you know your agent won't be in his/her office, get something from them the Thursday or Friday before you go to get your car. This can be faxed, emailed or you can pick it up from their local office. Most states require FULL coverage for new vehicles for 5 years. Don't think you can get just the bare bones & hope for the best. Some states require just liability. Check with your agent to be certain. If the car's used, aka pre-owned, you can usually keep the same coverage you already have.

You have your license fees, and most states have sales tax. Some states include a property taxes too when you license the vehicle. There may other charges too like filing fees, and dealer prep, delivery fees. If you feel that you have/are being ripped off. Go to another dealer and ask him for the total cost of a car that is the equal to the one that you are buying, and see which one is cheaper.

If you are buying a Ford product, email me and I'll see about getting you an 'X plan number. good luck.

Take it from me, I have been to a dealership to buy a car and the only thing the did was tell me a bunch of lies and charge me more than double of what the car was worth.
Do NOT go to any dealership for anything. Instead go to a private person and buy their car-granted it may need some repairs buy at least you know you won't be charged double and triple what the vehicle is worth.
