I've tried feeding them dry food and they began choking, so I added a little water to it. Once the food is soft enough the can eat it. How long should I keep adding water to their kitten food? Aren't they supposed to be ready to eat dry food yet? What if I just feed them special milk for kittens. Also, I wouldnt want them to dehydrate. Where I live it gets pretty hot 95 F. Thanx.

They don't seem to be interested in drinking water.

Maybe we should all learn to read carefully. "The illusionist" actually posted a very good link. And to think that someone has already taken points off him. Thank's everyone else.

Are they inside? If not bring them in! And confine them to a bathroom with a litter box, toys and a dish of soft food and water also. There are a lot of web sites that can give you info on this. And join orphankittens yahoo group. They will give you a lot of info.
My kittens had a mom their whole lives and started eating moms dry food as soon as they got teeth.
The best food for your kittens would be KMR milk (if they definitely wont eat) from Petsmart or Petco and Purina kittenchow (dry), or a very good brand of KITTEN canned food. They would be most likely to eat the soft. If they are eating the soft and you are feeding them the KMR they wont dehydrate. You can check by pulling on the scruff of the neck and see if it falls back - if it just stays stood up they are dehydrated and you should call a vet. You can also buy Pedialyte to give them for the dehydation.

when you have a six week old kitten they live off there mother milk and if the mother is not feeding them milk then you have to subitude the milk with kitten milk and they have them in the pet shop. If you still not sure than call the vet and they will help you out. But you will need help to bottle feed them OK I will wish you luck.

for about a week continue to give teh very slightly moistend food ( should be a kitten food). in about 4 days don't give as much moisterned food and add a little dry.
At 7 weeks give them the dry and they should be ok.
Just give them water. They get a lot of the water from the moisted cat food.
If yo are really worried give tehm the kitten milk but slowly add water till it's water. say today& tomorow. give it to them full strenghth tehn add somet water and loess milk and so on
Good Luck.

The mother cat wont feed them? And they're kittens? Go to the pet store (Petco or another) and get some kitten food made by Royal Canin. Also give your kittens some small portions of tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey, bacon, sardines,
and wet cat food. YOu might have to do it by hand, so be cautious and slow at it.

At that age, the kitten will have its first teeth, and be ready for a mixture of kitten replacement milk and kitten chow, mushed into a gruel. I have provided a link on kittens, and the section you want to consult is on orphan kittens, as well as other sections. Kitten replacement milk is sold in most pet stores, and in the link is also a homemade recipe.

i suggest adding the kitten milk to the dry food and soak it like you did with the water.....do it for a week or so then try and see if they can eat the dry....some take longer than others to get it....and i would leave water out so they can get to it they will learn how and what it is for.........good luck !!

get them some canned food...it has all they need, they won't have a problem eating, and they will like it....eukanubua has the best food, lamb and rice...and their kitten dry food is great and small for the kittens tiny mouths/baby teeth and its the best and cheaper in the long run..as for mama cat if she has been outside...unshaparoned...she may be pregnant again...or she has been eating well and her milk dried up...trust her though she still knows whats best...

The mother probably will not feed them because either the male forced her to mate with him, or whoever owned her at the time forced her to breed.

Don't feed the kittens dry food yet--perhaps kitten formula milk would be fine. However you should contact your vet before you take any additional steps.
