It's not even the molestations (because that's individual stuff, not the church itself), but the church's unwillingness to cooperate with authorities, instead sweeping stuff under the rug and not holding the priests etc. accountable.

oh by the way there is no good reason to leave God's visble Church as it is the prefigurement of the kingdom to come, sinner and saint joined until the end, Jesus himself instructed the people saying this about the teaching authorities "do as they say, not as they do, for they know the truth"

I too detest the fact that this is going on inside the church. However,If this is the only reason that you are leaving then it sounds to me that you are not being fair.

I mean all sin is sin right? none oi greater than the other and if overtime you hear of or experience something you do not like, you going walk away. How is that going to solve or change anything?

There are few good people Left in the world and you you seem to be one of them. Don't you think you can make a difference? wouldn't you be one less person who is not hurting another human being.?

I am sorry if my reasoning does not align with you're but i do believe that if you stand for something then you are to stand when the need arise for you to.

Wrong is wrong and i will never condone it but i will at least try to make a difference.

Hope this helped.

As a non catholic I would have to say that I think it is horrible when anyone molests someone. Priests have gotten a lot of publicity about it...and of course the church itself has gotten a lot of bad publicity about it because they did not get rid of the priests when it happened initially. However, it is not only catholic priests who have sinned. Many religious leaders from several denominations have done equally wrong...and they too get a lot of publicity. As to leaving the church because of it....If you only believe in the priest instead of having a personal relationship with God..you lose nothing by leaving. The choice is yours.

Do you really think this happens more in the Catholic Church than elsewhere? We've been conditioned to think that clergy and others associated with a church are good people, so it comes as a shock when we see evidence to the contrary. We need to remember that people are people, no matter what position they hold. And a certain percentage of people will do terrible things to others.
No one can tell you whether you should break away from your church. You must know for yourself whether it has positive spiritual value for you.

Unlike Islam you; "have the right to move around the cabin." Look into non denominational churches and don't leave your kids alone with anyone you wouldn't like touching them. Many who do this are supposedly friends and family also. The Catholic Church does not; "OWN" Christianity. It just happens to have capitalized on it first a long time ago. The Church has money that some people will do anything to get their greedy hands on. Do illegals also have the right to sue our country??

You are putting your faith in a person, the priest, and not in God or His church. Yes, there are priests that ACT holy, but are not. Over 96% of the priests have been faithful to their vows and ARE holy.

What will you do when you go to another church and find out that the minister of that church is a fallible person, too?

The crimes of a priest do not make the teachings of the catholic Church invalid.

I don't think that much of that is going on any more--after all the scandal became public knowledge. Think about the poor grown people who kept it a secret for decades--a horrible secret. If one is not safe in his place of worship, what's the hope of being safe anywhere else? If one cannot trust his priest, who can one trust?

When we attend the Catholic church (we also attend the Lutheran church), the priest made it quite clear that there were volunteers (screened for criminal backgrounds, sexual offenses, etc) watching out for all the children--in addition to their parents. He told us to all watch out for all children inside and outside of church.

Remember that not all priests committed this terrible offense--you can keep your religion--but be quite sure about who your priests are...

Also remember that Boy Scout Leaders, Little League Managers and Coaches, etc. have also done this. It is more important than ever that parents attend everything with their children--and get involved with all of their activities.

Hey even Jesus had his Judas does that mean what Jesus taught was no good? This is across the board too and not a problem just with the Catholic Church. Less than 2 % of priests had this problem that's less than the average population statistic. If you want to leave because of this I know you didn't know what you had before anyway. You are not just leaving the Church --you are leaving Jesus.

When there is a fire on board ship you jump, it`s a matter of self preservation when there is a scandal in the church you jump off because you do not trust Christ who said,``This is My church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it``
Nothing that has happened in the church so far has made me turn my back on the church of Christ and I see nothing that will either,I will stick with it through thick and thin.
By the way Priests do not become pedophiles but Pedophiles can and do become Priests.

Leaving a religion because one does not sincerely believe its teachings any more because of research into them is one thing but leaving because one is angry at the sins and mishandling of sins of church leaders is self-defeating. One will never find an organization without sinners in leadership. I'm staying in the Catholic Church because I am convinced it is the True Church founded by Christ and not because i like or approve of its individual leaders.
